How much do you pay to have your taxes done? For personal and corporate?
I am in the process of looking for a new CPA now and was quite a minimum of $400 for personal and minimum of $600 for corporate.
Seems high to me but I have used a part time CPA the last several years so maybe that is about right. What kind of rates do you all pay. --166.137.xxx.xx |

It all depends on the complexity of the holdings both personal and business. It also depends on where you are located. My costs for using someone in Charlotte are considerably less than when I used a CPA in Philadelphia.
We pay $2,400 for three LLC's plus a joint 1040. We use tax attorneys for other holdings.
Look on the bright side, it's one more tax deduction.

We fired our CPA; he was charging us $4,000 to do 1 corp, 4 LLC's and our personal. We took everything to him all organized and on a stick for QuickBooks. One LLC alone he was charging us $900 and he could not give us a straight answer on why that one was almost twice what the others were. We could understand if we took everything to him in shoeboxes and he had to sort it all out, but that was not the case. After two years of that, we got TurboTax and DH is doing them.
If we could find one in Indiana that did it reasonable, when we have everything all ready to do the taxes, we might consider letting a CPA do them again. --104.152.xx.xx |

It looks like our CPA charges us $265 to do DH's private practice, his day job, my part-time work, and four LLC's. I do all the information-wrangling for the Schedule E, so that running the numbers is as easy as possible for him. We turn in the information around the beginning of February, and he's ready for our signatures by early April.
I'm always a bit nervous because it takes several weeks longer than I expect it to, but it's worth it.
Caveat-- this is just for federal income taxes, because TX doesn't have a state income tax. And I take care of my other stuff for the LLCs, like filing my why-I'm-not-paying-franchise-tax papers and stuff. --96.46.xxx.xx |

When DH had a W-2 job and making really good money, I finally got tired of doing our taxes myself and took our return in to a CPA to get a quote for the following year. His quote was $1200. When I asked why it was so high for a relatively simple return, he told me that it was proportional to the income. The more money on the return, the higher his liability if the IRS found something wrong.
Now that our income is all from RE and significantly lower, we're paying $950 for a CPA that specializes in RE. I'm going to see how she chooses to handle various items, and then may go back to doing it myself. The time-consuming part is the bookkeeping. By the time I give it to her, it will probably only take a couple of hours to plug in the numbers and ask follow-up questions. --204.210.xxx.xxx |

I pay my CPA $350 to do my federal taxes. (No state income tax in FL). I send him copies of everything along with spreadsheets, so all he had to do is plug the numbers in his software. --68.205.xxx.xxx |

It varies widely, depending on the town around here. The CPA in my sort of upscale town charged $1000 total to do taxes for our personal and my dad's estate. That included sale of an inherited property, investments, rental real estate, and all estate returns for one year (state and local).
Further north, my MIL has been charged anywhere from $200 to $600 for her fairly simple individual returns since her husband died. I do them now with a tax program.
Bottom line - it depends on where you live and how much overhead the CPA has - the best-priced ones worked out of their homes as individuals, but because of that were in high demand and also tended to bite off almost more than they could chew. One lady mislaid my MIL's info, and actually had to drive 12 miles to her home at 9:30PM on April 15th in order to get the proper papers signed so that the CPA could then call her husband and tell him to press "Submit".
Second bottom line - you get what you pay for. --71.175.xxx.xxx |
