Had a prospect apply for one of our rentals. During our preliminary background check, before we even run a credit report, we found this applicant has an outstanding arrest warrant in another county. Nothing violent and no drugs, but goes to character, for not appearing in court for repeated driving offences. Their drivers license has been suspended; in facr showed up for the appointment on foot. We have disqualified them on not enough time on job and income, as well as unexplained gaps in rental and job histories.
Should we turn them into the police ---just can't stand a scofflaw!?!?

Chances are they won't care. Had a tenant my S.O. didn't screen ughhh! Anyway, after filing eviction on this "nice, older couple" I found out via Google one of them had a felony warrant (kidnapping) from another state. Called said state, they informed me they only went 500 miles to get them, and since we are more than 500 miles, they wouldn't bother. I even provided court info, no dice. --174.209.xx.xxx |

I would drive to Police station with application and tell them what you know.
Building a reputation with Police is good business and its called community policing.
Gulliani cleaned up NYC by going after petty crimes like "broken windows" and now there are volumns of books about that amazing success. Under Socialist rule of the current Mayor I will not even go back there anymore - too dangerous.

After seeing what happened to the drunk driver (here illegally) who killed a truck driver released on bond in CO I say M Y O B!!!!
After the FBI fiasco in the school in FL -- where 3 warning were given about the shooter.
After seeing (those cowards) the Sheriff's hide behind their car doors while students were being killed in that school.
We could go all the way back to well forever really.
You'd like to say let them do their job-- but really they don't. So why bother?

David[MI] don't know about how others find out, but I simply Googled the tenants name, a photo of "T" popped up, that's how I knew it was them, as they have a fairly common name. Picture was from a news feed that included picture of the car that was used in the abduction, same vehicle was sitting in driveway of rental! Location of offense was given, I went to the county listed and searched the sheriffs website and found mugshot with list if offenses. --174.237.xx.xxx |

In our county we can look up civil and criminal records. That's how we found out our one tenant was in jail for 2 years for domestic violence. Not all counties have this up and running though.
