Frigidaire Gallery model has knobs that turn on with the slightest touch. Knocked a piece of cardboard against the stove yesterday and heard the clicking. Gas did not come on yet when I grabbed it and shut it off. Now if one of the dogs had bumped that when I wasn't home..... I took a piece of packing tape and put it across all the knobs to keep them in one place and put a little fence between the dogs and the stove.
Most likely this model is too expensive for a rental but you may have it in your home. Brushed metal with cast iron top and five burners. Big center burner for grill.
The other problem is when cooking something on one burner the heat transfers to the entire top and can burn someone who leans on it.

I like gas for speedy heating stuff but electric is much safer, almost every mom that comes along wants electric stove. --76.188.xxx.xx |

AllyM of NJ, IF the range knobs are that touchy and the dogs could turn them on OR children could turn them on; then it maybe time to change out the range. Charge off to a rental unit...

I'd contact the mahufacturer and file a complaint.
Also a request to have it repaired or recalled. It is possible you have defective knobs. A lot of gas stoves, you have to push the know in a bit before it will turn. --174.216.xx.xxx |

I have an electric stove and the knobs are at the back so no problem with someone hitting it near the front .The problem is its possibly 40 some years old and from cleaning and whatnot the markings on the knobs have disappeared.so turning it on is by trial and error.but no chance of a gas explosion.we'll put up with it,I suppose we could get new knobs, but that would be too easy. ........ ....... ....... ..... .....charlie.......... ................ --174.199.xx.xx |

When my kids were little, I just pulled all the knobs off. Much harder to turn on accident.
Ready to cook-- just pull a knob out of the drawer. --136.32.xxx.xxx |

I will contact the manufacturer and the store I bought it from. Has to be a fix even though the tape works very well. --69.141.xxx.xxx |

Stove knobs are not the only things that pets can turn on. A friend of mine has one of those faucets that turn on when you touch or wave your hand. Several times she woke in the night to hear running water in the kitchen. Turns out her cats have discovered this fun phenomenon. A paw touch or even a pass-by will start it. But if they get sprayed they jump away and the faucet stays on!
I also have a touch lamp that I used to find lit-up many times both day and night. Finally saw one of the cats do it. I had to unplug the lamp to keep it from being on hours w/o my knowledge.

I have replaced many free standing oven/stoves that the knobs turn with a gust of wind. Now my newer models you have to Push-In and Turn.
I had an open house selling a property a could of years ago. When I went inside to check on things there was a gas smell. A stove top burner was turned a few degrees and gas was escaping without the igniter turning on. I shut the gas to the house. Opened all of the windows and allowed the gas to disparate. --47.156.xx.xx |

Miss Ally, depending on how old the stove is,the newer ones usually have a gas shut off,I think, I'm not usually wrong, but there's always a first time.........charlie............right............................................ --174.199.xx.xx |

We have experienced, as have friends, turning on electric burners by leaning on a stove with front knobs. Slide in ranges in our own homes.
I did it, and caught it right away. Husband was brining in groceries and we caught it. Our friend melted a plastic bag and partially cooked onions and garlic, as she unpacked the groceries, when she accidentally did the same thing. --99.249.xxx.xx |
