so has anyone here gotten their Certified Property Manager cert from Institute of Real Estate Management? Thoughts on whether it was worth it? Seems like a pricey bit of education.

It is very common for licensed brokers and agents to get certified in areas of their primary focus. The actual value is dependent upon on the value your target audience places on the designation.
If your plan is to start a PM firm or join one then it may be a necessity. I would think that your experience as a LL and by extension a PM would carry considerably more value than the certification to prospective clients.
I can only compare it to my Realtor license. I had zero intention of doing anything other than investing. And I think it has been invaluable to me. --71.75.xx.xx |

IMO the k my reason to do this is if you are an agent doing management for others and are going to use it as a selling point with property owners. Tenants could care less what designations they have. If you are managing your own properties your time and money would be better spent attending Jeffrey’s Boot Camp. --70.178.x.xx |

DAVID:Technically I am a professional PM. I'm licensed and I manage properties...just not any I don't own.
I've been asked numerous times to take on other portfolios and I am not interested.
For one the less interaction I have with tenants the better.
The primary reason is I've heard way too many stories from other brokers about the LL's who have unreasonable expectations and even more unreasonable demands. The worst are those who are either unresponsive or refuse to allow even the most rudimentary repairs. As a PM I would be torn between my fiduciary duties to my client (LL) vs. my ethical responsibility to the tenants.
To me there are easier and more enjoyable ways to produce income. --71.75.xx.xx |
