I am part of a huge privileged union.
This means I get a very large massive salary and huge benefits. I argue for a free market, but I am happy to make my huge salary and benefits.
Actually if the free market rules they would say I'm making over 20x what the market salary would be.
But my brothers keep wanting to talk to me about all sorts of stuff, including business.
Should I tell them I also own tens of millions of dollars in equity with my rental units? And yet I complain about the system in Toronto.
I worry that if this is disclosed my union brothers and my wife's union sisters might think I'm a capitalist?
I worry if this is disclosed the Toronto media might also make a big issue over this.
This could really discredit my complaints about Ontario rental laws when I'm raking it in because of the same socialist system.

One time at a rental housing meeting in London a teacher did not know where wage and price controls came from. In 1933 striken ist verbotten where as democracy was suspended where striken then the concentration camp. In 1975 rent control along wage and price controls were brought in then after three years they dropped wage and price controls but rent control which was supposed to be temporary legislation became permanent. If the unions would agree to wage and price controls then we all could agree on rent control. In another 3 months we are going exercise are democratic rights by giving the Fiberals the boot. I don't think they need to know you own so much. You are just using the systems that are in place in ways you see to make money. Why upset the apple cart. With your salary and rentals, I guess you can have it both ways.
There is nothing wrong with doing what is best for you and your family. A friend recent told me, when he was talking about some of union issues and solidarity, when we are in the union hall, we are all brothers and sisters. When we walk out the door, that doesn't mean anything.

I generally keep things on a need to know basis. First, only those who are in business can relate to your concerns and challenges. Secondly, no one celebrates your successes except those who aren't threatened by them. These folks are generally those who are more successful than you are. Therefore, it's these kind of people who I tend to talk to and share with when it comes to real estate or business in general and I keep my mouth shut otherwise. Andy,you are a Capitalist,but you're also a hardworking Union Member,who gets up in the morning before most. I'm retired now,and don't get up until noon sometimes,sometimes later. But I was Union too.Didn't have any regrets because I owned rentals,Maybe not as many as you,but some.Good for conversation and kibitzing,so keep on trucking......charlie..... .... ... ..

Stay quiet good comrade. Once the mindless union drones get worked up and programmed to hate management and capitalism, you don't want them to also turn on you since you're one of those capitalist types they've been programmed to hate. Once the hate propaganda is absorbed, they look everywhere for outlets for their hate. What's easier to hate? A co-worker they work alongside or a manager that's shielded from their hatred. I was alerted to this post.
Ontario, Canadsa is having an important election in June/18.
Many PC Candidates who I have interviewed oppose the "carbon tax" which means the PC platform is not funded.
Doug Ford, Caroline Mulroney and Christine Elliot are on record as saying they will find "waste" to make up for the revenue of cancelling the carbon tax.
If union employees are also wealthy free-wheeling capitalists investing in luxury rentals in Toronto this is a story I want to proceed with.
If this is true it will play a key role in the next provincial election.
Andy, we need to talk! Unionized employees are defended by the argument they need to make a living.
But owning high-end rentals? LOL!
This could be a game-changer.
Andy, how can I get in touch with you? I would like an on-camera interview with you in one of your luxury rentals.

This post is quite suspect. Andy, you claim to make 20 times what you should for the job. Ontario's minimum wage is $14 an hour, so that means you earn at least $280.00 an hour or $560,000 a year for a minimum wage job, or higher if the job's fair wage is more. That must be some powerful union.
You also say you have "tens of millions" of equity in in your rental units tenS of millions means at least 20 million in equity. If I were you, I'd sell all of my properties, and draw conservatively $800,000 a year from the passive portfolio of stocks and bonds.
