CALL TO ACTION for HB 1875

We have been asked to have letters sent from each of our PROA Organizations in support of House Bill 1875, which would reduce the time required to evict a non-paying tenant by 10 days.

The bill is scheduled to be voted on by the PA House Urban Affairs Committee within a few days, so it is important to act on this IMMEDIATELY!

A sample letter is available in the reference material of the association's website or you can call or email the office and ask for the sample letter to be emailed to you. The file is titled HB 1875 letter.

The sample letter is for your guidance. Do not simply copy the sample letter. Write your letter in your own words, using the same talking points. Please type it on your business letterhead.

Please Note: The attached sample letter is quite long and detailed. It is not necessary for your letter to be as detailed, as long as you hit the main talking points. Please be sure to ask the representative to support the bill's passage.

Your letter should be addressed to: Honorable Mark K. Keller, Chair House Urban Affairs Committee 108 Ryan Office Building P.O. Box 202086 Harrisburg, PA 17120-2086

A second copy of your letter should be addressed to: Honorable Michael H. O'Brien Democratic Chair House Urban Affairs Committee 302 Main Capitol Building P.O. Box 202175 Harrisburg, PA 17120-2175

To eliminate mailing time, sign both copies of the letter, then scan them to PDF format. E-mail them to Rick Allan, our lobbyist in Harrisburg, to be printed and then hand-delivered to the two chairmen.

Rick Allan's e-mail address is: rick@puglieseassociates.com

The bill is already scheduled for a vote, SO PLEASE ACT IMMEDIATELY!

Thank you for your prompt action.

CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE NOW!

How does this help if your lease already waives notice? I guess you won't have to put it in the lease. --207.172.xx.xxx

my take is that rather than wait the 10 days after your hearing to file for possession, you can ask at the hearing.... waiver of notice is before the hearing. --72.70.xxx.xx

oK. That's a good point Nicole and if they do it, that's a good deal. There's no reason to delay possession anyway. If it gets to the point of having a hearing, the tenant has blown a few chances previously anyway hence no need to give them another 10 days of free rent. --207.172.xx.xxx
