There is a new bill in city council that will make it harder for LL's to evict tenant's with just cause.

Did I miss something? Why is a non renewal of a lease an eviction? --207.172.xx.xxx

It's horrible. We have so called progressives in charge. They are too stupid to realize that the more difficult they make it for landlords, the less housing will be available. The mayor appointed a task force on the problem of evictions. Every appointee was a tenant's rights advocate. What do you think their report is gonna suggest? --73.141.xxx.xxx

Sounds like Philadelphia is going to adopt a bulk of the practices of New Jersey LL/T laws for the past 30 years. --73.195.xxx.xxx

Vote with your feet into council meetings and bring a friend, once the people realize the rising cost of housing is needed because of silly rules like this they may change their focus on solving the problem rather than making a new problem. They will only adopt what you allow them to, create a precense at meetings. --76.188.xxx.xx

To GKARL: In the liberal's mind, a non-renewal of lease or giving a MTM tenant a Notice of Non-Renewal is considered a "no cause eviction" -- even though you do not go to court and nothing is on the tenant's record. This is being made illegal in many so-called progressive jurisdictions.

It really is a back door attempt at rent control. You cannot vacate the property to make improvements and then raise the rent. So, of course the building suffers, and then the LL gets in trouble for having a substandard building.

I have heard of cases in San Francisco where LLs are paying long term tenants $100K to vacate apartments. It is quite the scam. Everyone lawyers up and tries to milk as much money out of the building owner as possible. --98.146.xxx.xx

The do gooders need to realize that if we are asking someone to leave they are a problem to us and probably the rest of the tenants in the building. This is the same mentality that got some children killed in Florida. --73.33.xxx.xxx
