I want to weed out some unqualified prospects. Very hard to search public record without address when they have common name. They all put income high enough on prescreen question, all answer "No" on eviction and criminal background. I found it is note true after receiving their full application and search public record. I ask them for the correct spelling, I know they could be lying. I would eventally find out.
I dont even give the doctors office my SS# and it always causes a fight, I end up winning.

When I send a wife, girlfriend or daughter to a showing, I'd never put them in a position of harm. I'd have another tenant from the apartment property help with the showing and I'd ask them call me back from a number showing their caller ID or to unblock it. --47.156.xx.xx |

I wouldn't ask for DOB during a pre-screening. It could put off some good prospects. Someone might even think you were trying to do an identity theft and bad mouth you on CL.
And as you said, it will only help you with criminal records. Personally I don't get a lot of applicants with serious criminal history so it wouldn't help me much. --72.188.xxx.xx |
