I have many old fashion gas forced hot water boilers.. burham, weil mclaim, smith etc..
I never clean them (means open up the top and use steel wire brush to go through the "fingers") . However, One boiler requires annual cleaning.. How I know it, the tenant will report that the pilot is on, the rollover switch kicked in, like clock work, every year..
What gives? I don't like to do that job anddon't like to spend money on it (30 minutes to an hour, will cost me $200 to hire out)

There maybe other problems. A compressor with a extended air noozle will clean out most of the debris. There are videos on You Tube which maybe of help. Avoid touching any thing with connects to natural gas as this should be done with a certifed technician. --147.194.xxx.xxx |

I doubt a rusty or sooty heat exchanger will affect the firing of yiur old furnace. I have a similiar type.. I agree, there is probably another issue. --65.94.xxx.xxx |

Ok let me help you. This first month in 2018 i would like you to set aside $20 and do this every month this year. In oct or Nov when the its time for heat, just call for the cleaning. Do this for every boiler you have in service. Its a small percentage of your expenses yet worth every penny and you won't have to complain about doing it... All the stress removed. --66.87.xx.xxx |

Plenty.....i have found cleaning boilers of this size is usually 400 to 500 dollars per year. And they arent even very thorough. --65.94.xxx.xxx |

Wow. That would mean you'd have to save up more. I believe i read his cost is $200. Either way that's quite a bit of expense vs a regular forced air furance. --66.87.xx.xxx |
