Anyone want to rent to her?

I am 19 Years old and currently 3 months pregnant. At the moment I'm staying with my best friend's parents they live in Hudson. If you know anything about Hudson there is no local buss line depending on where you live and they are so lazy with giving me rides to appointments and stuff I pay them a total of 200 a month and I help with food but I don't even have my own room. I'm looking for a place I can go that's on a bus line and that I can get my own room and privacy and help motivate me to succeed my goals. The only problem is I get one of those stupid monthly checks and I wouldn't be able to pay rent till February 1st.

Well. Being on a bus route is important if you don't have a car. Having your own space is missed when you don't have it. If she could hear herself talk on the other points she may change but no on has redirected her thinking. Checks that come in the mail, mail box money, can be of value if one understands their value and purpose. Sad. Nice that these people are helping her. More help needed. --66.87.xx.xxx

Danny, I was an idiot also in some ways when younger, but I was not an entitled idiot. There's a difference, I think, between doing dumb stuff and having a bad attitude. One can be attributed to unbalanced teenage hormones or lack of experience...the other is chosen, daily. --173.19.xx.xxx

Outrageous, yes. But more just sad, really.

Many of us have done stupid things at that age (I know I did). And also been unrealistic about how things work in the world. But the "three months pregnant" part at age 19 basically dooms her (and the kid) to living with her mistakes forever. And I'm sure she'll have that kid collecting SSI checks in a few more years once a medical "condition" can be found to get it. --72.188.xxx.xx

What she will do when the baby will born? Bring it to the same house and complain that they not helping enough to babysit? Collect bigger “stupid checks” and finally getting her own private place, so she can have more privacy to make more babies? --70.214.xx.xxx

Sid, I read that NPR article. Poverty is not a chosen lifestyle?? The poor, poor person featured in the article chose to get pregnant, which meant she chose to give up her scholarship to college. Then she chose to have unprotected sex at least two more times to have children by two different men. She also chose to...

I'll stop now before I give myself high blood pressure. "She turned up pregnant." Grrrr! Like it just HAPPENED! --204.210.xxx.xxx

After a quick read I did look at the picture at the top of the story. Besides the pets [that cost $] I did see what appeared to be a computer monitor in the background. That would imply internet access and the possibility of using it to further/complete the desired degree on line, at home without having to travel and possibly at no cost.

I found something recently called Lynda.com which is an internet learning site. While the do charge I found them thru our County Library system and cause I have a card, can use the site for free.

Am learning to use Feel and there are literally of thousands of course choices.

Sadly my first thought re the dental disease was: "meth-mouth".

Robin, I think you know me well enough by now to realize I'm with you on this one... I didn't post that story saying I agree with the assumptions it makes--which are skewed heavily in her favor. Merely to give an example because, as the gal herself admits, she grew up in a similar situation. The poverty and entitlement mindset is bred into people. Some few overcome it and make something of themselves, but it does become a vicious cycle.

I'm always grateful to my parents for being who they are: kind, caring, supportive, and hard-working. In addition to what I see in rentals all the time, I have friends who are foster parents, so I see the "dark side" from where some of these kids start life. --173.19.xx.xxx

What an amazing thread Robin, and thank you for having started it. My goodness, the stories are very perplexing.

Frank NY, indeed, Lynda is such an amazing resource of educational courses, and we used to pay for a license. However, none of the people who wanted it would study the cache of the how-to videos or even the educational ones. I'm so grateful that you can use it for free.

S i d, thanks so much for the link, and the mentality of the mother was just mind boggling. It reminded me of a no-charge documentary by Marcia Rock and narrated by Angelica Houston on vimeo. It's called "Daughters of the Troubles," and the part in common with your post starts at 37 minutes. A search on the director's name, vimeo, and the title should allow anyone to find it in case it is of interest.
