Would like to get some input on LL that use card readers to collect rent, or have tenants do direct deposit to LL bank?

I've done tenant deposit to the bank. Some tenants only have debit card. They often go to the ATM at that bank, get cash, walk over to teller and pay rent. Works well.

Others have walked into bank with debit card. Teller does an advance on the card. It involves the teller running the card, getting printout, tenant signing printout. Bank checks their ID with the card and if not sufficient funds, it won't go through.

We do autodraft on almost every res. But some cannot add 1+1 so we give them a card that says "Teller, Please write this person's name and address on the deposit ticket. Personal checks not accepted." and

"Resident, Text us as soon as you make this deposit so we credit it to YOUR home." Works well so far!

We call it Walk In Rent- go to an XYZ Bank branch.

MANY local factories are paying on a paycard/debit card. These folks can do the Walk In Rent without paying an ATM service fee.

For credit cards we use PayPal. Yes they contest it but in many years no one has contested. It's great for distance applicants to put down their deposit and parents who pay someone's rent from a distance.

We have a few who use this weekly.

SQUARE UP card reader: we use this if they do not have internet access. We can type in their card number over the phone.

We credit their account with the amount AFTER CC fees.
