Saw this ad in the Christmas Spirit on Craigslist. Author is willing to do laundry for the downtrodden for free, since her place is equipped with washer/dryer and her utilities are included!

FREE SERVICE FOR SINGLE MOM/DAD or homeless to help out this winter

Hi, I have so much, and want to help someone with their everyday expenses. What you save will be enough to buy one or 2 more Christmas presents, but every little bit helps.

I am willing to do your laundry free since I now have access to a washer and drier at my home. My utilities are included so I thought I might as well toss this out for anyone burdened by laundry and the cost and time to lug it to the laundrymat, and wait for it.

I'd even pay for detergent as long as Tide or Gain or a generic brand of detergent is ok (and no allergies). Willing to do baby clothes with special detergent like Dreft, etc, if you provide special detergent.

Wash, dry, fold, to help out.

Also, any homeless that needs laundry done, willing to hear you out. Its free. Over night or 1 load over a few hour stretch.

Can't do much to pick up dirty clothes so you should be able to get to downtown to drop off/pick up.

I believe it costs $5 to $7 to do a load and dry at the laundrymat. Hopefully saving that money will help someone.

PS no heavy rugs washed. Thanks,

You people need to spend time thinking about how THEY can help people and not waste time writing to tell me I'm special. TELL A HOMELESS PERSON HOW TO FIND MY AD AT A LIBRARY COMPUTER AND WRITE ME THEMSELVES. FYI: I CAN MEET THEM AT THE BUS STATION SO PLEASE, STOP WASTING YOUR TIME WRITING ME. DO YOUR PART TO HELP. I DIDN'T SO THIS TO GET FAN MAIL!!! --100.6.xxx.xx

If she wants to be charitable, she should do so on her on dime. This not charitable at all, but is a ripoff of the LL. --64.121.xxx.xxx

And this is one reason I will not buy a rental apartment building if the electricity is not paid for by the tenants.

My lease also says no washers or dryers in the apartments. --70.30.xx.xxx

One landlord posted that their tenant started a laundry business from the rental property as utlities were included in the rent. I have read that tenants will also wash their friends clothes when they visit.

Never include "free" utilites in your rentals. --70.30.xx.xxx

Knew of one rental where the water bills was $400 a month since the tenant was taking in laundry. LL lived in FL and used to call my mother to cry about since one of dad and mom's duplex's was next door to hers. Other than a shoulder to cry on they stayed out of the problem. There was nothing they could do anyway. --73.33.xxx.xxx

I've added an excess utilities charge to my leases after one of my tenants drove up my water bill not telling me about a running toilet. Making them pay cuts out a lot of foolishness --172.56.x.xxx

Her intentions are good. It seems like she doesn't understand that she herself is in jeapory of being homeless. Boundries! Books on proverty unline this exact issue. It's a mindset. Bad thinking. But good intentions! I did see a guy on TV that recognized this very issue of showers and laundry. He built a truck that he can drive around and allow homeless people to shower and wash... Better idea, better thinking. I would image it's a problem for homeless people. --99.203.x.xxx

Prolly should figure out who the landlord is and alert them of the -charity- going on in the laundry room, I made my laundry rooms all 50amp outlets after I found a regular dryer plugged in where my coin machine used to be - I did the washer cords the same way. no more of that -charity.... --76.188.xxx.xx

This is why I have installed cameras in the laundry rooms and include in my speech to prospects that the washer will go away if abused, so squeal on the offender (if it should happen) or you all lose out. --68.105.xxx.xxx

Sparky,

How nice of her!

I wonder if you could contact her and sift out the LL's name to give him/her a heads up.

Maybe place a GPS bug in the hem so you can trace the location of the laundry like in the movies! You could drive around town with cross hairs on a screen going beep beep beep..."She's turning west on Main Street. All units close in!"
