Spent my blizzard afternoon crawling around underneath a tenant's house trying to get a cat out from under there. I thought it ran towards the opening (around the corner from where I was) but I didn't see any cat prints in the snow outside of the hole. URG! I ran some errands for a while and came back and checked but never did see prints. I went and got a trap and put some tuna in it and put it just inside the opening and sealed up the hole - Now I have to go back and check it. DOUBLE URG. The old lady said she'd been hearing the cat for about two weeks - right after I made sure the opening was sealed. Thanks for calling me sooner lady - that poor cat could have died under there.

You are going to too much effort, just leave it open a couple days and the cat will leave on its own --72.231.xxx.xxx

Well Ken I sure didn't want a skunk or raccoons in there to go with the cat. LOL --97.95.xxx.xx

I've had crazy tenants remove the crawl space covers so that their cat has somewhere to rest when they are at work! Soon after Raccoons or Opossums and even skunks have taken shelter under this apartment building.

Even after I set traps and close up the crawl space, my tenants keep on opening up the crawl space and then release the critters, who then return under the property.

SO I made thick metal frames with heavy gauge mesh vent covers that lock into place and are secured with pad locks.

I had to trap the animals and give my tenants warnings, notices to cure violations or move.

Years ago, I had to hire a teenager to go in the crawlspace to remove a cat that had been dead for 2 weeks. The stench was horrible. This is where I learned about putting Lime down which neutralizes the stench. Lime also works wonders for raw sewage overflows in the backyard.

The worse thing to have in your crawlspace is a live snake,...talk about a freaked-out tenant. --68.63.xxx.xxx

Hopefully the cat is now in the trap. Tuna is a great incentive and useful in such trapping.

I do cat rescue so my feelings might be a bit different than some who post here. If trapped (and no collar for identification) you might check to see if a local rescue group might take the cat.

Well, as of this morning no more cat sounds and no cat in the trap so I think he must have run out when I was under there! Thank God for number 3 son (who is number one in my book) for going over there this morning and verifying that the cat is no longer under there (as far as we can tell)! Yayyy --97.95.xxx.xx

While shimmying thru a crawl space I came upon a cat who had died in a perfect laying position and become mummified by the sandy fill.

I sent it to the biology teacher with my middle schooler. Teacher was thrilled.

Note to self - one less cat house in Michigan

Is there a game plan to seal up the crawl space before you have an opossum moving in next --24.101.xxx.xxx
