Curious about how a water softener functions.
When you fill up the container with salt does the water that runs in your pipes and out your faucets fill in to the tank unfiltered? In other words is it necessary to regularly clean out the salt tub and drain it with fresh water?
After recently loading salt into the tank I noticed the bag doesn't look super sanitary, they all have small holes in them and look ratty etc.
Also noticed a few small bugs in the tank :)
Is there any concern that clean water is being contaminated in the tank and running out the faucets? --74.130.xxx.xxx |

Your clean drinking water does not go directly through the salt, it goes through a bed of resin pellets. These pellets react with/capture the minerals that cause hard water. Once the pellets catch a certain amount of pellets the water softener sends your drinking water into temporary bypass, usually in the middle of the night when you aren't using any water. The softener sends some water into the salt and washes the pellets with this salty water. The minerals react with the salty water removing them from the pellets. The salty water is pumped out and the pellets are rinsed with clean water and the bypass is closed sending the drinking water through the pellets again. --72.95.xxx.xx |
