We're rehabbing a repo manufactured home and the carpet has been removed, painting ceilings now with oil based Kilz since there are some water stains. Wrestled with idea of replacing windows with house windows but decided against that since the vinyl siding is 20 years old and brittle. The outside metal frames are pretty substantial and not easily removed.

So..... estimate in today from local glass company. They want $500.00 to come out & replace glass in 5 windows, and silicone around them instead of replacing the rubber gaskets. I'm not real happy with it but will go ahead since it needs fixing ASAP.

I'm getting so I don't mind paying for outside work, our DIY days are behind us. Besides, our base will be so low, this will just help with that. Buying a boatload of trim & corner coverings, what a shame to see a home so totally destroyed in 20 years, they just walk away when no longer livable. People actually write on their own walls with a magic marker, home grown graffiti!

Window world.

I'd be leary of window work for $100 a window. If you aren't replacing, what are you doing? Bandaid work isn't usually the best bet with Windows. --50.107.xxx.xxx

Just replacing the glass in the frames, doublewides have two storm windows, one on the inside and one on the outside. One is movable, and one is stationary in each window. This house had several broken windows in it, most all in the stationary frame.

BTW, where can you buy the tips/ends that hold a storm window in the track? Some of those are broken off so they will fall out. --76.4.xx.xxx

I would not fool around trying to restore a window that will fall apart quickly, just get new windows and mount them inward to prevent water intrusion, any roofer can cap the exterior water tight. --76.188.xxx.xx

When I hear the words Doublewide it reminds me of the song "Queen Of My Double-Wide Trailer" part of the song goes...

So I made her the queen of my double wide trailer

With the polyester curtains and the redwood deck...

So Pat of VA make sure to get some real nice polyester curtains to cover those nice new windows...

Yes, I remember that song, Tom. Hubby has decided to cancel appointment with them and have one glass cut & try silicone bead around frame. He and our handyman, can decide if we can be happy with that or do something different.

A set of new mini-blinds over them will cover a multitude of sins, but definitely can't have 5 broken windows! BTW, have you all noticed that mini-blinds have disappeared from all of the dollar stores, I sure hope Walmart doesn't stop selling them. --71.51.xxx.xxx

Pat- Walmart is planning to stop selling corded mini blinds sometime next year and will only have cordless. Same for Home Depot and Lowes because of the safety concerns for children choking. --73.102.xxx.xx

Dang Kyle.......maybe tenants should be feeding kids. I didn't think of strings as a choking hazard. I hope they don't outlaw stones as a different hazard --24.101.xxx.xxx
