Local guy uses dry ice or I guess CO2 coming out of a canister strapped to his back. The ads say that it is safe even around electronics. He goes all over the East coast with that and his bedbug sniffing Beagle dog, Roscoe. Hey, where's Roscoe? He's workin. Bell Environmental is the name of the company. --73.33.xxx.xxx |

With the seasonal cooking spree you may now have a pie slice cutter or a spatula handy from baking stuff and it will work except tight corners where you might need those tools from a child's playset, the heat machine does well killing bedbugs, melting most plastic items like outlets - switches and insulation from low voltage wiring but does nothing for roaches, they just relax in the walls like they are on a summer vacation. Is it an ozone machine you ask about? yes they work well to kill all the bugs but be cautious about breathing dense amounts of ozone yourself trying to unplug the machine after it has been on for a few days or a week inside, use a cord to the central machine to reach an outlet nearest the door - reach in to unplug and take a walk while the fresh outdoor air displaces the dense ozone atomosphere inside. --76.188.xxx.xx |

I discuss many subjects that I see on the board with other LLs in SATV, and one subj is bedbugs. The going thought is only heat and some chemicals will work. But I have also heard that rubbing alcohol kills them. Something about its almost instant evaporation takes the life/heat out of their bodies(?) Also stated was that alcohol was cheap to buy and plentiful everywhere. It can be poured on springs and mattresses and not do any harm to them, and can be used on walls and floors without harm too. Supposedly it neutralizes the areas they use as nests so they can't go back to them.
Don't know if any of this is true, but if CO2 freezes them, I presume alcohol could too. And without the equipment and labor of the CO2 contractor. If anyone tries it, let us know the outcome. --108.87.xx.xxx |

Lynda, yes, if you apply rubbing alcohol directly to a bug, it will kill them. The problem is that due to its instant evaporation, rubbing alcohol has zero residual effect. You would never get rid of a bedbug problem killing only those you actually see. They are well-hidden and you need something with residual killing power for when they eventually come out. --174.201.x.xxx |

91 percent solution isopropyl
You need to spray it directly on affected areas. The reviews I 've read show mixed results.
Heat seems to be the most dependable solution in terms of both effectiveness and cost. --75.181.xxx.xx |

Well ... in the northeast, you could drain the pipes and let the place drop below freezing for a week.
Can't get much more cost effective than that. ;) --198.168.xx.xx |

Lynda. rubbing alcohol on bed bug by bed bug is nonsensical. heat treatments is only way to kill them. trust me. we spend $s each month at our hotels. We treat the room as well as rooms on each side & across the hallway. It’s like whack a mole. --104.218.xxx.xx |

It was recommended to me to travel with a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol and spray the bottoms of my shoes after leaving a unit with bed bugs before getting in my car. A precautionary extra measure to hopefully avoid bringing any home. --24.61.xxx.xx |

Let me confirm that 70 or 90% alcohol does work...spray all baseboard, walls, cracks, etc. Wear mask!!! I also used bedbug bombs in purple canisters from Lowes inside and under house. Turn off heat air and ceiling fans. Remove wall plugs, that's where they hide. Property was empty. If rented, spray everything, clothes, furniture, clean mattress, spray both sides and cover mattress with plastic zip bag. Exterminator had seen them prior to my treatment. I asked how would he know if they are still there and he responded oh I will see them. He saw none while treating. Two weeks later, he came back and treated again. Two years later knock on wood, nothing. I spray my luggage when I travel and when I return home. I think its smart for Landlords to take spray bottle with them. I set out a tenant who had cats, illegally of course. Police officer told me there were flees. I offered to spray him down after I sprayed myself. --172.112.xxx.xxx |
