Today's news from a research study:

74% of people under 35 prefer to communicate by text, even with friends.

Most use their phone in the bathroom.

Most sleep with cellphone with reach and will check it for new mesages if they get up during the night.

Gotta love texting!

Thanks Brad, really appreciate this.

I can't stand texting, rather make a phone call.

But NOW, I realize that "I" have become one of those old people who doesn't understand the new tech.

So thanks a lot, guess I'll go dig myself a grave. ;) --47.216.xx.xxx

As an "older" millennial, this sounds about right. I don't sleep with my phone in the bedroom but I'd prefer to text on most occasions.

I think more changes are coming with the latest iGen. There was a video online showing they don't even know how to turn on one of those old IBM computers. It's actually kind of interesting to see these changes happen. --68.61.xx.xxx

I hate phone calls. I much prefer text. And I'm a Boomer.

Unless it's a long gossipy call with a friend or my sister, texts are much more efficient and far less of a time waster than a phone call where all the social niceties take up too much time when all you need is a brief answer.

Sometimes I will not answer my phone and then text the person, "What did you need?" I pretend I was in a meeting or something. --173.22.xx.xx

I too am a boomer that prefer texts. In fact if a tenant calls, I figure it is a real emergency. Texting allows me to not answer immediately, yet know what they want. Each reply allows me some time to thing about what I want to say. Sometimes taking even longer to reply, because I am "busy" with something, allows me to cool down and not get emotional, or think of other questions to ask to help solve the problem, etc. It allows me to respond to them without doing it immediately.

I do not sleep with my phone, but without a landline anymore, I do have it charging where it can be heard and will probably wake me up if there is a real emergency. --96.236.xx.xx

From what I've read if you were born in the 1980s up to mid 1990s you're a "millenial". However, it seems some consider those born in the late 1970s to be millenials also.

Those born after 1995 are part of the Gen Z or iGen, I guess there is a naming conflict.

So if the person is 22 years old or younger, you likely are dealing with the generation after the millenials. --68.61.xx.xxx

texting is probably going to be one of the down falls of civilization. How in the world can a true conversation be held with cryptic, misunderstood, words and abbreviations.

I could text back and forth 20 messages ... or make a 2 minute phone call and both parties know what's going on.... as stated above, I'll go dig my grave.

I watched my girls texting this week regarding a birthday party this weekend. I'd have made the phone call and had the majority of my "to do" list finished before these two were done with their messages and misunderstandings. Sure hope my grandson has anyone show up at his party Saturday and they understand the "theme". Don't get me started on party invitations issued through some type facebook "event" app ... --72.95.xx.xxx

Dealing with ninja squirrels at one building this week. I can visualize what texting would be like. Voice message was "they're back". Well that doesn't help me one bit. It was like pulling teeth out of her in a conversation ... which porch - front or back, did you get rid of the bird food like I told you to, why didn't you allow the handyman in when he wanted to put the trap on the upper roof, etc. Texting would have taken forever to get the answers. Instead, in the phone conversation, I guided/coached/ bullied/cajoled/pried the answers out of her. --72.95.xx.xxx

Whether we like it or not...texting is here. I like it. There are ways to communicate efficiently and effectively. I have both used and responded to Facebook invitations. It works. Easier to get RSVPs and send reminders vs. snail mail/email. Also easier to communicate with everyone if there's a last minute change vs. calling everyone.

I use Google Voice for texting from home. On the road, smart phone app G-Voice. Keeps my home number private.

Ask anyone from the iGen what the acronym BIOS means when speaking of information technology and you'll get a blank stare from 97% of them. Unless they work in IT, they won't have a clue about the joys of booting up a system. They want to touch the screen and it magically all works somehow-a-ma-jiggie. --173.19.xx.xxx

But she and her sibling both have scolded me for sending them a text, email, or Facebook message before they get up for the day. Because they have their phones on at all times and use them as alarm clocks. Oy. --71.175.xxx.xxx

I love to send the video’s of her grandchild eating and sitting up and stuff. Only person I call regularly is my husband. But we FaceTime most of the time (video chat) so he can see his kids everyday. I also like texting to have that record of everything said when it comes to the renters. --50.81.xxx.xxx

PS I'm 70 and retired from IT, texting isn't just for millennials.

One thing I don't do is use text for new applicant pre-screening. I insist on a call for that. That's the one instance where a call if more efficient for me. I intend to get rid of that at some point by having applications completed via a website where most of my pre-screening questions can be dealt with. But for now, a phone call is what I use for that. Otherwise, for routine stuff it's text. I don't want calls nor do I make them for routine stuff. --207.172.xx.xxx
