I've had to hire a new electrician for a project. This is after letting go of one I've used primarily since I've started in RE.
I interviewed 4.
One started out strong and then took forever to get back to me regarding the project.
One stopped in, took down the details and emailed me the bid the next day on company letterhead along with specific clauses about the business relationship and stuff like that.
One came and knew what he was doing and took the needed info and chatted with me for over an hour at the job site. He ended up knowing my old partner and people we used to hang out with, bars we may have frequented, etc..
The 4th came and was in and out in not too long of a time. This person had a handful of rentals himself and we talked about that for a while.
The bids were all really close to each other in price and pretty much near what I expected them to be.
I went with the person that gave me the bid within 24 hours on company letterhead.
I am hiring them because there is no common bond between us.
I won't be discussing rentals, I won't be discussing the good old days. They are starting off without having an "IN" with me personally. No common bond.
If I can keep it that way like I do with my tenants, it should work out. Plus I liked the professionalism.
That not having a common bond was my actual deciding factor in this. I personally liked the landlord electrician and the electrician who knew my old partner and the stuff that came along with that. Putting my business first though, I needed the best fit for a long term electrician, instead of who could become chummy.
