Hello fellow LLs,

I was wondering if anyone can share their experience with using Lou Browns asset protection program? Are you going to his seminar?.It used to be the traveling guru's montra to put everything into an LLC. Then we found out that LLC can be sued so what good are they except to keep your name off of the public record but you still can be liable. I'm ust sure if there really is a program that can 100% protect your assets> What do you think? --108.93.xxx.xxx

I haven't been to the seminar, but I've read the teasers on his website and other reviews online. Sounds like it mostly revolves around setting up trusts and buying properties in protected accounts like IRAs. Who knows, though? There could be more to it. I'll check back and see if anyone else responds.

My thought is I'd like to first spend a few $ with a local real estate/trust attorney who holds investment property in trusts. See what he/she does to protect assets.

One of the reviewers I read claimed he got the course 7 years ago and "uses it all the time" added this caveat: "Make sure the forms follow your specific state rules." So, if you're going to have to hire a state-specific attorney anyway... --173.19.xx.xxx

Bart,

I've used Lou's stuff for years. Have not bought anything, not even my Porsches in my own name.

Anybody can sue anybody for anything sue I don't know how to stop a lawsuit.

Trusts can help slow it down, not attract lawsuits, and most importantly limit what the legal beagle can take.

If I am sued they might win but it's only one house.

Attys think this approach is silly but they don't have the same risks we do. They are in the biz of lawsuits so they think it's no big deal. Mostly THEY have nothing to lose if YOU are sued. In fact they MAKE MORE MONEY if you are sued.

My atty's lease is 4 pages. He says he'll "deal with" any problems that arise. MY lease is 27 pages because I deal with possible issues BEFORE they happen. If they do happen, the process is already laid out for the judge. Belts and suspenders.

Seminars: knowledge is power and profit. They more you know the more you can do. When I go to seminars I meet multimillionaires. The guy with 4 rentals who is always whining about lousy applicants and deadbeats tries to tell me seminars are just out to get my money.

JEFFREY's upcoming Lanldord Boot Camp is a must.

I bought this years ago (it came with CASSETTES!!).

I have used it quite often. Last year for the first time I had to change the beneficiary of a trust and there was all the forms I needed.

Lou is the 'real deal". --75.132.xxx.xxx

Good info, all. Thanks

Hubby and I are realizing we need to really look at asset protection more than we have been.

Amazing how things change over 20 years. All those years, we didn't have anything and tried to do it all, lost money or barely made anything. It can change in the blink of an eye!

I sat at Lou Brown's evening round table at the Cleveland Convention where he spoke some on trusts. He was very knowledgeable and I would guess his program is very good, though I have not been to it.

However, I did recently finish Albert Aiello's book on Premier LLC's which I purchased from this web site. Albert uses the concept of "Equity Stripping" with two LLC's and integrates them with an irrevocable trust. This strategy makes a lot of sense to me in regard to asset protection. --67.236.xxx.xxx

Bart, are you aware that if you are a member of this site you can hear a presentation by Lou Brown on the subject of Trusts right from our website (on your computer, tablet or even your phone).

If you've never taken time to see all that's included in Mr Landlord Memberships (including the Trust presentations and others), I'd encourage you to take a few minutes to explore Downloads.mrlandlord.net/audios/3-vip-interviews/

A few years ago we had a lawyer that spoke to our goup. He said he owed a number of properties and .I believe he owned things in a RE trust that was owned by a LLC (maybe vice versa) then owned by another RE trust Etc. That is, a number of layers that he said made it very difficult for other lawyers to crack to get at him. One of the trusts only owned a table and a few chairs,..

Again I don't remember very accurate details as I wasn't owning all that much in those days but thought it was interesting at the time.

BTW He said it's possible that it COULD be cracked,.IF there was enough money involved as in millions but it would take too much time and effort for most lawyers to try for just about anything that would happen to most LL's and they would probably give up the task. --71.192.xxx.xxx
