Found a duct cleaning service that answers their phone. They will be coming out on the 29th to vacuum out whatever may be in the ducts at the Cute Cape Cod where the mold lady did her deeds.

This is one with the giant vacuum on the truck. They bring in a large tube similar to what steam cleaners for carpet do. They tell me they do doctors offices and hospitals too. The vacuum at each heat duct and return.

So I wonder where they have dragged that big tube before coming to my place. The handyman and I will be out there with a spray bottle to spray that thing before it goes into my nice clean second floor after it goes into the basement.

The mold tester told me that spores don't reproduce on metal and don't stick to it so this will be easy cleaning.

Heater guy is ready to install new heater and central air so this will be a good solution. --73.33.xxx.xxx

Thank you Frank. I have an applicant waiting too so I won't have to advertise and end up with a giant service dog. What a mess. Have concrete issues too with a couple of toe kicks. --73.33.xxx.xxx

I wanted to have my ducts cleaned in my 1950s personal home. I have forced hot air and it is always dusty in the winter. I asked about it one time when they came to clean my furnace. The guy told me that those big vacuums really didn't do much good at all. I was tempted to ignore him because it just made sense to me ... a big sweeper sucking out the dust. Coincidentally, I believe it was 20/20 or one of those type shows had a segment on what scams the cleaning was.

So a word of caution ... be sure you are getting what you think you are getting. Still makes sense in my mind but who knows. --72.95.xx.xxx

The EPA no longer suggests doing ductwork cleaning however I do it when there is leftover clothes at furnace replacement time, once dry and once wet, the crayons, plastic tableware and stinky clothes go straight to the trash can, hardly anybody in the industry to prey on folks since the story came out about the nearly useless service. --76.188.xxx.xx

Actually the mold testing people suggested it. Mold spores could be sucked into ducts via the heater. They don't grow on metal so no actual mold in the ducts. The returns pull all kinds of bacteria from the apartment and the tenant who left had rabbits. I just found rabbit hair in the oven drawer where the broiler pan is. The pregnant woman upstairs has asthma. I think she deserves not to have rabbit hair flying into the upstairs unit when the hot air heat gets turned on. --73.33.xxx.xxx
