For the second time recently, a tenant has reported a broken refrigerator. Both refrigerators were basically brand new. The first I replaced, but now I'm suspicious. Am I responsible for this? And, is there something obvious that I'm missing that tenants do to break their refrigerators? Seems like each time, the fridge "doesn't get cold enough." Thank you. --209.249.xxx.xxx |

If they leave the door slightly open the refrigerator continually and that could cause an early demise . --75.22.xx.xxx |

Just guessing. But could they have it jammed full and leaving one of the doors cracked open?
Maybe causing it to freeze up blocking the air flow from the freezer from getting to the refrig section?
But second time I would agree with Vee and spring for a professional opinion this time.
Also in case it is needed. Just bought a Frigadaire 18 cuft one from lowes.
On sale 399.00
Then use a one time code for 60. off 400.
Have to buy something small to get the total to 400. for the coupon code.
Use ebay to get a emailed code --73.177.xxx.xx |

Most likely, they are setting the freezer too cold. Dial should only be mid-range on both fridge and freezer.
Defrost the fridge and freezer for one to two days, adjust controls and see if that doesn't fix the problem. --136.32.xxx.xxx |

never buy Frigadaire
NEVER
even new, you will replace in just a few years.
my repair guy said so,,, and I thought,,, well I bought one anyways cause the price was good. Lasted a bout 2 years... thought my repair guy was off his rocker when he I sent him to fix it, and he said replace it... called Sears for second opinion,,, the Sears guy said,,, cost more to repair than it cost new... so now I NEVER BUY Frigadaire....
Hope RR78 comes back in a few years with a different experience. --173.108.xxx.xx |

David,
What is broken?
If they block/cover the vent in the freezer the fan will ice over. This will give you "not cold enough" in the frig portion while the freezer is still cold.
You said "basically new". Were these used?
These don't like to be moved. Did your helpers lay in on it's side to move it?

I also had problems with Frigidaire.
Had a brand-new one that got installed at a brand-new renovation. It lasted about three months before the compressor or whatever stopped working, and the tenant's ice cream wouldn't keep frozen.
If it's "basically brand new", you get to activate the warranty and not worry about stuff.
When you/your handy guy looks at it, what's the problem? Is it a bad compressor? Or is it freezing up? Or something else? --96.46.xxx.xx |

I agree with others....avoid frigidair, moffat, hotpoint, ge, magic chef.
As for your problem.....yes I suspect the tenant might have caused a problem. Is the circuit overloaded causing the condenser to be restarted frequently when the breaker is reset, is the frezer overloaded preventing air circulation into the food section, are the doors being properly closed, is the cold setting to low causing the fridge to work too hard.
But have the fridge checked for the cause of failure. It might be a defective starter relay or freezer fan and it has nothing to do with the tenant. --70.31.xx.xxx |

I have been having a devil of a time with ice makers. I have replaced 3 so far this year out of 24 fridges that are identical.
Sometimes you get a bad batch. --24.45.xxx.xx |

Ice makers? What are those? Never in a rental!
ice cube trays are cheap at the dollar store.
meanwhile, if it got turned on it's side, it has to sit right side up for 72 hours minimum before being plugged in. They are usually OK if you do that.
