Not meant to be a political discussion. Just couldn't resist and couldn't understand the logic behind it.

I was watching some of the news while having lunch.. I couldn't help laughing at the oxymoron. Probably USA is the only country that allows illegal to protest openly against laws that are trying to curtail the state of illegal immigrants.

Most other countries, you would be promptly rounded up and deported if you are illegal..

I have bunch friends who are illegal.. so, I am not against those people.

I don't know where the line is between humanity and lawlessness.

I think humanity should stay at the borders. We aid people in other countries. We should keep the US a privileged membership. If you don't follow the rules, you get thrown out.

The US is a rental property, and we should adopt a no tolerance policy. Follow our rules or leave. --108.69.xxx.xxx

I always thought Newsweek was rather left-leaning, but this week it referenced a CNN interview with [the former SOS] from three years ago--

"“We have to send a clear message, just because your child gets across the border, that doesn’t mean the child gets to stay,” the former secretary of state said. “So, we don’t want to send a message that is contrary to our laws or will encourage more children to make that dangerous journey.”

etc, etc, etc.

Then a quick look at Google shows two years ago--

"[HC] sat down with a small group of DREAMers on Tuesday at Rancho High School at the heart of the growing Latino community in Las Vegas. She said it was time to provide immigrants in the country illegally with a path to citizenship. But she didn't stop there, staking out positions on immigration that put her to the left of [Pres O] and the controversial executive actions he took last fall.

"I will fight to stop partisan attacks on the executive actions that would put DREAMers — including many with us today — at risk of deportation," she said. "And, if Congress refuses to act, as president I will do everything possible under the law to go even further."

Not meant to be a political commentary, either. Just an interesting observation. :) --96.46.xxx.xx

This is the way I look at it.

Grandfather came here legally from Italy. But let's say for a moment that he didn't. Mant that came from Italy came through Canada (illegally).

My father and his siblings were never taught Italian. My grandfather wanted them to assimilate.

Can you imagine if my father had been sent back to Italy? No idea of the language, no idea of the culture.

This country is their home, and through no fault of their's are they illegal. They should have the easiest path to citizenship. --75.132.xxx.xxx

DACA is a common sense policy. There are an estimated 10 million people in the US who are not here legally, overstayed visa etc. CBP and the courts only have the budget to deport about 250k people a year. It makes sense to prioritize hpw their limited time and money is spent and go after the "dreamers" last. --75.149.xx.x

DACA is a way to track otherwise illegal immigrant children. There are good qualities to DACA. Participants were eligible to work(and pay taxes) study and could not have committed a serious misdemeanor or felony. They are trying to make their lives as best they can. Sounds like they've been duped.

They have few tools to deal with returning to their birth country. Many have few family members, no way of working there, little knowledge of the language, culture and the safety of their upbringing in the American culture makes them targets.

They came through no fault of their own. There has to be a rework of DACA in the next 6 months. At least an extension to help existing DACA participants to become legal.

I can understand why many Americans want to shut down illegal immigration. I don't agree with all of it, but I understand why. Couldn't we have picked on any other group?

Oh Lord. My blood boils over this matter.

There are so many AMERICANS who have contributed so little to the good of our American society and scream about birthplaces and we want to get rid of some of the GOOD ONES who are working and paying taxes?

Illegal aliens are nothing more than an invasion. Unlike the days of Ellis Island the illegal invaders do not assimilate. Illegal is not following the law, where does it end if we let some things that are illegal be ignored. Part of the DACA issue is that this is not the way to handle the problem. It needs to be addressed by congress with laws rather than executive order. Our immigration laws need to be looked at and possibly changed due to different circumstances than when there were first made.

It is not the fault of children what the parents did, and certainly some of these kids are very productive in our society, so that is where we need to make a one time exemption to a fast path to citizenship. BUT it needs to be one time, and we need to stop that in the future. Many productive people are waiting in line to come here legally, and they should not be penalized to accommodate the illegals.

But then, I believe that if you come here, you need to assimilate into OUR society and our rules. You don't come here to live like you did in the old country. That means learning our customs, laws and language.

When I filed my last eviction, my paperwork was rejected the first around. Apparently it's now required to fill out paperwork that has everything in English AND Spanish. Never mind that my tenants don't speak Spanish. I think immigrants may be an answer to our current shortage of contractors and other lower-wage-earners, but agree that it's a great disservice to everyone to facilitate their non-assimilation. --204.210.xxx.xxx

The USA is a nation of laws. If we don't like our immigration laws, we need to change the laws rather than have executives whose job is to ENFORCE (i.e. execute) the laws picking and choosing which ones to enforce and to what extent they are enforced.

I realize it's not the kids' fault that they end up here. Does that really matter, though? How many of us kick kids out of our rental houses when their parents don't pay the rent? I do it all the time. Sorry your parents are not doing what's right. That's on the parents' head...not mine.

If we make a "one time" exception there will be more "one time" exceptions. Guaranteed.

Again, if we don't like the laws, we need to change the laws...not make exceptions and play games with how we enforce it. Doing so is just like the land lord who has a lease then never enforces it. Gradually, we lose control and the tenants are in charge. We're already getting very close to this situation.

I have nothing against the dreamers personally. But we are a nation of laws. --173.19.xx.xxx

This past summer marked the three year anniversary where I turned all of this off.

I recognized that policies move in directions the way real estate values go up and down. You can see the overall direction your local policies will go. So a person takes advantage of the atmosphere around them and then moves to an area where they spend more of their time.

At this point, I would love to learn more languages.

What kind of interpretation is needed to understand the right to protest openly against laws within the borders of the USA? That right is guarantied by the US Constitution and is available within the borders of the USA as a territorial right, and is not restricted by the characteristics of the person attempting to exercise it. --47.139.xx.xxx

I understand that many of these people would never survive in their respected countries of origin and most have never even been there but I am a firm believer that our borders must be secured and that some form of immigration reform is needed.

But I do not appreciate dreamers flying the flags of other countries while receiving American benefits. Brings me to my point that since the "dreamers" now have the American experience of organizing maybe they should go to their countries of origin and organize for change.

As for the bad ones I say deport on first offence, one year ago my truck was stolen from place of employment I actually saw my truck leave the parking lot and followed it. When the police finally caught up the guy, turns out he was a Mexican national with 13 previous arrest for auto theft and burglary. needless to say he had public representation and was not deported. That is exactly why Trump got my vote....not that I ever thought of voting for Hillary. --10.2.xx.xxx

I agree that having laws, vetting, and physical health inspections is good for our country (if you had an eye infection coming through Ellis Island, as I understand it, you could have been rejected). I have had immigrants from Croatia rent from me.... they were allowed in because they had skills: mine was an electrician. Maybe a one time exemption for the children specifically noted in DACA would be ok if they are productive, have no criminal activities, etc. I read a little on this, and one of the reasons that there is an uproar is because if these children get citizenship they can petition for (and get) their illegal parents to citizenship.... this makes everyone scratch their heads. --162.238.xx.xxx

It is not their fault, but it is not our fault either. It is the fault of their parents, who broke the law. If their parents had robbed a bank to provide them a better life, would we let them keep the money because they are used to it? Also, the media is portraying them as people who were brought here as toddlers and have been here fifteen years or more. No, Dacia extends even to people that came here as old as 17 and have only been here a few years. Finally, what will be the next step after the dachas are allowed to stay? I can precict it now: we can't separate these young people from their families, that would be cruel, so we have to let the parents come, too. --73.141.xxx.xxx
