I need a good shingle coating. Asphalt shingles around a 4-5/12 pitch. Shingles are in decent shape. Problem is once every year or 2, it will leak into the 2nd story apt.

No visible signs of entry or damage anywhere. Usually during downpour rainstorms is when it leaks. I want to coat a 10x10 area on each side of the peak.

I want to put some really good coating down. Any suggestions? --50.32.xxx.xx

I'm right behind you with this idea. I have some mystery leaks on 5/12 roofs. Some of the shingles are less than then years old.

I concur with Charlie, this is most likely the installer's fault not defective materials.

Liquid / brush able Geocel could be applied over the shingle to lessen the chance of leaks. --72.93.xxx.xxx

There is a product that I use called "Through The Roof"

It is a clear gooy substance that can be brushed on and its great. it comes in gallon and quart sizes and can be bought on ebay. I use it on shingles and even mobile home metal roofs... anywhere a leak is suspected. --71.85.xxx.xx

Charlie, it leaks because I know it leaks. It has to be wind blown rain, because it doesn't happen all the time. Roof was done before my ownership 7-8 years ago at least. Leaks every so often in that time. It's not an installer issue. --50.32.xxx.xx

There is a covering to help problems like this, it will lat many, many years - metal roofing, when you do it yourself the material cost is about same as asphalt shingles with a fraction of the fastners (holes that could leak), sometimes you have tomake your own trim, a window person does the same thing, I did a 14sq house in 5 hrs - swept and trailer loaded out the driveway in 6, nails in the driveway? I painted my neighbors shingle garage roof last year with Sherwin Williams shingle paint. I used my airless sprayer and it looks great. Was done for cosmetic reasons only, I will use this stuff again --152.208.xx.xxx
