Any of your less traditional investors out there ever find a use for very long, very narrow Residential lots in a town? My county tax lien sale this year has several that have gone unpurchased for 2 years, so my guess is no one would be interested this year either. I'm talking weird dimension like 10 ft wide by 140 ft deep. You could not build ANYTHING on these except perhaps a fence.

My only thought is if there are houses on either side, you get that parcel and then sell it to one of the homeowners. The major downside is neither of them might be willing to pay, but would still USE the land. How often would I have to drive by just to monitor these dinky little plots to make sure someone doesn't decide to dump 500 old tires on it?

The upside is they are super cheap: less than $50 owed in most cases.

Thoughts?

I'm sure if there were several adjacent lots you would have considered buying them all to make one functional lot. I have a friend who lives in a house and with half of the house in the adjacent lot. --66.191.xxx.xx

Yes, that is how I understand the logic as well. Homes were built using many lots.

Your idea about selling it to a neighbor sounds easy if you set the deal up ahead of time and make it a monthly payment for the next three years. --74.96.xxx.xxx

We have several places that are sitting on multiple lots.

But I'm betting yours are not next to each other?

What about a community garden? Fence them off and rent spaces to garden. But then you need water somehow... --173.22.xx.xx

For clarification:

1) I do not own any of these yet. Due to the hassle factor, I would only bid on those lots that would get me a Deed in 90 days or less (i.e. offered 3rd time for sale with no bidders) or are "over the counter" sales (i.e. more than 3rd offering, no bidders), which are an immediate Deed issued.

2) There are not "4" (four) lots. The post title would read "Use for narrow lots" but that takes too many letters.

3) Yes, these lots are scattered, not next to each other. --173.19.xx.xxx

Sid, if you find a way to extract value from lots like these, you'll be set for life. Often, the only way to not own one is to let it go to the tax sale. I've pondered this, but haven't come up with any good exits on it! --70.195.xx.xx

Maybe if the"Small house" catches on and the municipalities wise up and allow you to build on a small lot,of course asking them something like that would stress their brain too much, but if it happened, wonder of wonders, you Sid could become a" .millionaire". ...............Charlie............................................... --174.199.xx.xxx

park a small tiny home on a trailer and rent it. water, electric and sewer hook up. Not a permanent structure. 6.5 feet wide on a 10 lot.

Neighbor may not like it. Then he buys.

I will split your millions when this pays off. I only want 49% You be majority holder.

Cheers! --70.60.xx.xxx

Search for Alameda Spite House. The house is 10 ft wide and still occupied to this day. Probably not practical for your situation though --75.149.xx.x

Earlier this summer I was inside a tiny house. I'm guessing 100 sq feet at the most. Probably 6 feet wide. There are 5 of them on 1 lot in Madison. I believe the people living in them are all formerly homeless. Much of the work to build them was done/donated by volunteers. --66.191.xx.xxx

TA, thanks for the tip about the Spite House in Alameda, and I always wondered about it when I walked by.

Sid, please let us know what happens if you do pick up those different-shaped lots. That's so amazing that they're around $50 a piece? Best of luck.

Here's a way to make money on these.

Plant all trees on them. Couple years later, they are bigger and you sell the trees.

I knew a guy with as nursery who did this. He had lots like this all over-the-top under power lines, near freeway ramps and so on. Grew hundreds of trees on them. Little theft, little problems. --66.188.xx.xxx
