Please recommend some websites that tenants might use to ask questions and post comments. I would like to see what they complain about and what advice is given. --69.161.xx.xxx

Just google "landlord unfair", "landlord sucks", "landlord slumlord", "questions tenant landlord", and see what comes up. That will take you to the pages that sponsor those types of comments. Yahoo also has a good Q&A. --108.69.xxx.xxx

Most of the tenancy advocate websites are run by people who have extreme views. One of them said rental housing providers have no right to own rental buildings where they are supposed to take out reverse equity. All the rental units should be owned by non-profit which basically means the government. Rent control is a system of expropriation where all the private owns go bankrupt then the government takes over then there is no rent control. As a matter of fact one of the tenants said the chairs are actually homeowners. That is why they will tell you who in charge. www.torontotenants.org What tenants want is a decent rental unit for a reasonable price which is only possible in a competitive rental housing market not rent control. You not get much from those who have extreme views. --69.158.xxx.xx

For NY and NYC people, there is www.tenant.net/phpBB3/

They have a section for non-NY too, but it is mostly NY stuff.

As Robert mentions, the owner is incredibly biased, of course.

But it is sometimes a fun read just to see what people complain about. Just be sure to bite your tongue and resist the urge to answer as a LL. They will not appreciate it even if you give factual information. :)

In reviewing some of the tenant comments they seem to follow a similar theme: Lots of time spent complaining how the rental unit was a dump/dangerous/falling down...except in lots of cases the tenants continued to renew their leases for several years.

What ends up upsetting them is when they finally move they expect their security deposit back and become irate when they don't get it so they then post about every issue they feel they had to endure during the time they resided there.

Tenant complaints: lots of complaints about "greedy landlords". Anger at getting rent raised. Ticked off because they don't get their deposit back when their dog only peed on a couple pf places so why do they have to pay for carpet cleaning or replacement?

Lots and lots (endless) complaints about neighbor noise and why the landlord won't stop the children upstairs from walking around. Neighbor noise is the most frequent complaint and it appears to be that they think it is entirely the landlord's fault.

Low rent places, lots of complaints about why their cheap place isn't maintained to upper middle class standards and how they deserve to have a nice place to live, even though they can't afford to pay for a nice place to live.

Tons of hostility over landlords refusing to rent to felons (take heart Washington state tenants, it is now illegal in Washington to reject an applicant for having a criminal record) --72.35.xxx.xx
