Do I need the foam underlayment if going over smooth Vinyl floor? I am not worried about noise as it is the basement that has DRIcore sub floor. Using brand X product from Home Depot - not Pergo --24.34.xx.xxx |

I have laid the allure click fooring successfully over existing vinyl tile flooring and it was in a basement such as yours and I did not use the under layment. However I did use a latex floor leveling compound to smooth, remove uneveness.
I think the underlayment is to reduce sound and cover minor imperfections in the existing floor surface. In your case I would not use the underlayment. But im not a floor expert. --70.30.xx.xxx |

Presuming the Dricore is smooth & flat, you shouldn't need the foam padding. Just read the installation / warranty info to be sure any future claims won't be rejected because you didn't follow their direction.
How long has the Dricore been down & do you think it's doing a good job handling potential water issues? --72.93.xxx.xxx |

I used Allure Vinyl Plank flooring from Home Depot in several apartments. In the basement areas, over concrete, I did use the underlayment just as a vapor barrier... I wouldn't use brand X pergo...spend a little more and get what is going to last...Allure. I used Allure in a condo/apartment; family of 5 boys all involved in sports (meaning baseball/soccer kleets, and did I mention boys!). The flooring wears like iron; when they moved out after 5 years, the flooring still looked fabulous.... I don't recommend cheaping it, because you will be doing it all over again in a few years, where's the savings in that?.... --75.174.xxx.xx |
