I have a property that I need an inexpensive backsplash for that can take a beating. The last tenant fried foods like every night and never wiped the walls down.

Anyone find anything they like?

I dont want to do Wainescoating - gets dirty and is white...

was thinking metal... ugh

Any advise would be greatly appreciated --98.102.xxx.xx

For the small size of a backsplash, tile won't cost much if any more and will look great, clean easily and last long. y ou t ube has great how to videos. --72.172.xxx.xx

I like your metal idea. There are 4x8 sheets of white flexible plastic. Easy to roll and transport in your car. Cuts with utility knife. You mostly can make a paper pattern and cut one piece to cover. Very thin. $20 sheet. Plas-Tex waterproof wall panel. Thickness is .060. By Parkland Performance. We Bought it at Mernards... My new favorite product! --66.87.xx.xxx

I have also used outdoor fabric. Apply to wall with liquid starch. Easy to peel off and put on new for next tenant. Some what scrubble. There is another post i wrote about using fabric. And photos in my photo page ...link at top of this board --66.87.xx.xxx

There are also peel and stick look like ceramic tiles sheets at Lowes.

How about just glossy paint?

Or how about floor vinyl? --66.87.xx.xxx

I just use ceramic tile up to 6ft, so easy to clean and hardly a fire risk, just be sure to support the bottom course well for a few days, you can stack with small spiders to minimize the grout holding grease. --76.188.xxx.xx

White ceramic tiles or any light colour. Some times they have a small quantity of ceramic tiles at some of the Habitat for Humanity restores. It will not require a lot of ceramic tiles for a back splash. --74.220.xxx.xx

If you're worried about grease, you might want to look at some kind of material you can get in a single piece to fit, something without grout lines.

What about those plastic backsplashes that go behind the stove? They wipe and are durable. --108.69.xxx.xxx

I do all my backsplashes in 3 by 6 bevelled ceramic tile.

I put 2 or 3 coats of high quality sealer on the grout.

They look great and white bevelled subway tile is timeless, it wont go out of style, so you only have to do it once. --99.225.xx.xxx

4 x 8 sheet of formica or other laminate. Cut to size and glue up. Since it is countertop material, it will hold up well, and scrub easily. As a back splash, it will probably not be subjected to hot pans or knife cuts either. (But I probably would not bet on that with tenants...) --96.236.xx.xx

We use the plastic backsplash panels that look like metal. Several patterns & colors to choose from. Nearly bulletproof. I've used them in probably 30+ kitchens & haven't had 1 fail yet. Even behind a range. Big panels, easy to work with, quick to go up, durable, flashy & really makes a kitchen stand out. Available at Home Depot, Menards. The last ones we used came from Amazon......they were a couple dollars cheaper & we needed a lot of them. --104.128.xx.xxx

At the local hardware store there are metal backsplashes being sold. They are nice looking brushed metal. Maybe two of those with a strip in the center like they use for formica would work. I have used melamine board but it won't take much scrubbing. Ceramic tile would look nice but hard to clean. --73.33.xxx.xxx

Go to a fabricator that does restaurant supply and get a piece of stainless steel sheet metal. Glue it on, maybe a few screws where covered by cabinetry. --73.141.xxx.xxx

Dawn,

Least expensive, fastest, and easy to clean: semi gloss paint.

We use the metal sheets from Lowes appliance dept to put along side ranges to protect the wall.

Let's hope this cooker was yoru last.

2 Minute In Home Inspection prior to fianl approval would have saved you this hassle.

BRAD

I like the sheets of small glass tiles; under $5 at home depot. Usually only need about 4 to go behind a range; they can be trimmed as needed. Adds that awful word "bling".
