My first question: Do you have experience installing Allure flooring - with the adhesive grip strips? Answer: yes Truth: NO!
After seeing the botched-up job they did on the second floor ignoring my instructions and tips I shared from my personal experience installing it 3 times: I've decided to not let these people install the flooring on the first floor. I'll be telling the boss in the morning.
I have no reason to believe they will suddenly listen and be more careful.
Problems: I told them avoid getting dust, fingers or anything on the adhesive strip. Lay them flat & Keep box closed until you need it. They: tore open 3 boxes at once, stood them on end and scattered pieces through rooms they weren't even working in yet.
Me: undercut trim on doorways. They: don't. Tried to cut odd shape to fit around trim & ended up with big gaps. Me: measure room in both directions. Trim first row if needed so that no piece (on last row) is narrower than 3". They: Yup - you guessed it - 1" strip along edge of room; full piece on other side. ETC, ETC.
This stuff is not rocket science, you just need attention to detail which they obviously don't possess.
Time to stand up tall and speak up clearly. You're fired!

I agree that they didn't know what they were doing. That being said, I would say ONE thing about what they did that I think is correct: You ARE supposed to open up 3 boxes at a time and randomly take from each box during the install.
So, when I install Allure -- and I've done it probably a dozen times -- I also would have at least 3 boxes open and usually standing vertically against a wall -- so that my helped can quickly and easily grab one from any of the boxes.
You do this to make sure you don't get one area with a slightly different color and such. It's actually in the Allure instructions.
But, again, they clearly still didn't know what they were doing. So, you made the right decision! :)

Personally, I've never had a color issue - I'd rather keep it clean. Standing it on end can damage the corners. But, yeah - there are enough other problems. --68.105.xxx.xxx |

You said the most important thing in your 2nd para--"I am telling their boss..." Neg feedback is very important.
"Mr Boss, you sent over 2 men who supposedly could lay Allure. I am reporting that they can NOT correctly lay flooring. I am very unhappy, they did a miserable job, did not listen to my instructions, screwed up the doorways, and left me in a position of how to fix it. These men will eventually hurt your business if you keep sending them out to lay your flooring.
I will not pay for this job--as is. If you want to see the quality of their work please come and view it. If you have someone who can fix it at no further cost, then I am happy to pay for a good job and recommend you to others."
He will either come in your direction or not. Or maybe he will fire the bad workers. But just don't eat it without complaint. --179.52.xx.xxx |

I had to fire a guy once. Have the check ready for the work they did. Tread softly since these are not always people who control themselves. Don't do it while the workers are there. Tell the boss and ask him to come pick up the check for the work that was done. If you have a written contract though, I don't know how that works since they can ask for they whole amount.
I had to call the police to get the guy out of my unit before he did any more damage and I had the contract and the check right there for the full amount for the police officer to see. --73.33.xxx.xxx |

After firing dozens of this type worker I looked at how much I could babysit and how much I could just do-it-myself, and the guy in the mirror has had very few operations that needed to be redone, he is not perfect but when it comes to miles per week he has them beat. --76.188.xxx.xx |

One time I allowed my experienced painter to lay down laminate in a 1300 square floor house. The guy only had experience with thick 12 mm laminate and used a mallet and block of wood to "force" things together. My flooring was only 8 mm and needed to be mated together without force or it would damage the locking edges. The end result, about 10% of the boards needed to be replaced. A costly and timely adventure.
Now I know, only use tradesmen that only install flooring and give a guarantee on their work. They should either have a State License, Business License and/or Insurance. --47.156.xx.xx |

DJ,
Yesterday's headline: man shot over a $10 dispute.
Neighbor kids' Dad shot and killed in his own easy chair by his employee over a $60 paycheck dispute.
I don't FIRE anyone. "The boss has instructed me to pay you for the work you've done. He's stopping the project for now."
I stopped trying to fix the world. The job you got is the level of quality this boss knows. He believes they did a good job. He will become very defensive and probably hateful. Let them ride off into the sunset while you try someone else.
Average 1 out of 10 hires will work out for a longer relationship. Kiss more frogs!
