I know a lot of us do our own painting, but IF you hired a painter, what would expect to pay...

3-bedroom, 2-bath home, 2 long hallways, laundry room, 2 bathrooms?

Woodwork is done, closets and ceilings too, so just walls. 2 coats.

All RE is local, I'm just curious? --173.22.xx.xx

Walls only, 8' ceilings would cost 75 cents per square ft of floor space. Paint ant labor. --72.172.xxx.xx

Right now in my area everyone who's very good has a whole lot of work. Most of the pros in my area are going to charge per sq ft for whole house painting. I would guess $1.50 for walls only. A few years ago you could get it for $1.00 all day. --70.178.x.xx

I find estimates to seal/prime/refinish costs 250-300 per room, brush cutin and roller over the major areas. --76.188.xxx.xx

I hired a painter in mid-February who was desperate for work for $50/room per coat (no trim or prep work), $10 for a ceiling.

More recently I was quoted $1.25/ft for spraying (everything--walls, trim, ceiling the same), $1.55/ft for rolling. Painters are making so much in my area that I'm tempted to go into the business myself! That's square foot of floor space, not wall space.

So the quoted price of $850 for my job is quite good. I thought so! He did another job for us for $1500, and I thought he way under-bid. Apparently not because he doing this one for less! --173.22.xx.xx

I hired a buddy of mine who is responsible, works hard, and was looking for some pocket money. $15/hour and he got my 600 sf ft house done in about six hours. $90 labor, $75 for a 5 gallon bucket of paint, $25 for a paint stick, $10 misc supplies/mini-rollers. Looks very nice for $200! --173.19.xx.xxx

This is going to take longer than 6 hours! I know because we painted it ourselves last year. There's carpet to worry about (too good to remove) and cutting in, etc. --173.22.xx.xx

Here...1000 sq ft house that needs 2 coats (walls), closets, and trim painted fetches $1,500 in labor only costs. I could get it done for $1000 probably but would need to babysit, pay cash at the end of each day, pick up cigarette butts, trash, etc. Two bad choices...I've got to find a painting crew that is reliable, reasonable, & professional...still looking. --24.26.xx.xx
