Ok maybe not OT but I may have a tenant that is Vegan. She applied. Is there anything I need to know? I'm really not too worried after watching and reading up on it. Just pretty rare in cow, hog, chicken, and turkey farm country.

Is this someone you know from elsewhere, or is this a new applicant? If it's someone you just met, your vegan is being very true to stereotype... lol. :) --96.46.xxx.xx

Deanna, what's that? Telling everyone they're a vegan?

I had an electrician who HAD TO tell everyone he was gluten free. After a while I told him to shut up, nobody cares. Haha.

If you want to see a hilarious video, check out the YouTube video about the guy telling everyone he only eats meat. It's so funny. --174.201.xx.xxx

On topic: no worries about bacon grease going down the kitchen drain!

Q: how do you know if someone is a vegan or does CrossFit?

A: they will tell you within moments of meeting!

Yes. :)

Twice a year, I go to a major city to take a painting class. There are a number of regulars who attend. One of them is vegan, and the teacher is vegetarian. The vegan is always talking about vegan foods from this shop or that shop; how much they cost; how they taste; how it's "just like" whatever its non-vegan counterpart is, but it's even better 'cause it's vegan...

I know someone here had recommended going no-grain. DH lost 30 lbs last year doing that. It had really amazing results! But it was very hard to avoid bread/rice/pasta. I'm sure being vegetarian is even harder, and that vegan is hardest of all. So it's not surprising that it pops up in conversation so much. But yes, it's very much like that YouTube video, lol. :) --96.46.xxx.xx

I am not going to worry about what my tenants eat, unless it is the neighborhood cats. From someone who hunts, fishes and eats plenty of sugar and grains, and cheese and meat, I guess I give them credit for being so disciplined.

I'm a no-grain person. Have to be, I'm a Type II diabetic and eating carbs is a sure way to lose an eye or a foot. When you look at it that way, it's much easier to say no to the pasta and rice.

Also, I was able to stop taking Prilosec completely which I had been taking every day for a DECADE. Pain completely went away.

And yes, I tell people! --173.22.xx.xx

I'd say not an issue too.

I've had a vegan tenant -- it was great because he kept giving us stuff that he made. He grew his own sprouts too.

As a vegetarian, this was the best stuff I'd ever received from a tenant as a gift! :)

I wish he hadn't moved to another state!

I've had one woman who was vegan and fed her family that way. The weird thing is that she fried just about everything, I guess in vegetable oil. Whenever she and the kids went away to visit relatives, her husband would chow down on pizza and burgers (by his own admission.

The constant frying made the kitchen a pain in the neck to clean up - but they had a large security deposit, and I knew some kids who needed work. --71.175.xxx.xxx

It was hard to believe this first post. If I were to limit vegans in these parts I would cut out a lot of good tenants. I've shifted more and more to the vegan/vegetarian side of eating myself but I have to say I can't call myself either because of falling off the wagon now and then.

The vegans/vegetarians that I know seem to be in general healthier and younger looking.

My favorite place to be invited to be is from a woman who is a vegetarian and who makes incredible meals. I don't think I can do that as she must take a lot of time in preparing these meals. If you want to read something very interesting look at forks over knives.Book or video.

As I said when I do eat meat I try my best to get free range beef , or organic chicken. Not only do they have less exposure to chemicals, i.e. hormones, antibiotics etc. but I swear they do the taste so much better. So these days I need if I have any, its more of a garnish in the main part of the dish. I think since doing so I have a lot more energy and I've lost quite a bit away without feeling deprived.

They care about their health! Meats, cheese and milk should be listed as carcinogens! I've been on a mostly vegan diet for the past 2 weeks. It changes how you look at food and how you feel! The beef, milk and other industry lobbying groups don't want the sheeple in the us to learn this!!! I don't gp around telling strangers this! Haha --173.25.xxx.xxx

The only other thing I can think of is the tenant may want to plant a garden. Sounds like you are in the country, shouldn't be a problem. I like tenants to plant gardens - flower or veg. Makes them more permanent, and it's easy to restore (or use as a "selling point") when they leave. --68.105.xxx.xxx
