The screws holding the storm "door closer" has become loose due to the stripping of metal in course of time. The screw hole has become big for the screw. I temporarily used larger screws but it didn't work. Is there a easy cheap way to fix this. Thanks.

I have drilled all the way through the storm door before and used carriage bolts with washers and nuts for a nice tight hold.

Next turnover, remove the storm door. They are as much maintenance as ceiling fans. --74.47.xxx.xxx

The brackets used to attach to the door typically have 6-7 openings in them for the screw, allowing folks who can't measure right the first time (like me) enough grace to get the thing attached...sort of an adjustable screw hold. Just use the next one on down and drill a new hole in the metal door, or a self tapping screw should do the trick.

I'm with NE though...I'm getting rid of storm doors (and ceiling fans, and screens on windows, and garbage disposal) as turnovers occur. Tenants are brutal on all those items, and in my Class C market they are not required or even desirable enough to command the extra rent that makes fooling with them worthwhile. In class B or A hoods you might have to provide these amenities regardless of the hassle factor. --173.19.xx.xxx

Use longer screws to screw deeper into the wood. May need an impact driver . --166.137.xx.xx

I have used JB weld successfully in metal storm doors in this exact instance. Wait for it to harden , then drill new pilot holes. Works OK in a low stress household, time will tell how long it will last. --192.159.xxx.xxx

The same way that toothpicks can be used to partially fill a screwhole in wood, you can sometimes use some wire twist-ties (strip off the paper-plastic) to partially fill in the over-sized hole in the metal. Two or three twist-ties, folded in half, give you four or six thin wires.

Pop used to use wooden golf tees. Glue it in the hole overnight, trim flush, re screw. --75.132.xxx.xx

Find a piece of metal long enough to screw to the door and attach the closer to it. --68.60.xxx.xx
