To All Real Estate Landlords/Investors:
Recently, my son who was on leave from the US Army rented a movie for me. The movie was titled "Founder" starring actor Michael Keaton. This is a movie about how McDonald's hamburgers was founded and how Ray Kroc it's founder made his money. Ray Kroc did not make his money selling hamburgers, he made it in REAL ESTATE. After watching this movie, we went out and purchased our own copy. This is a great motivational movie. It is for me. We own 22 units and watching this movie makes you want to do more for your own business since we are in the real estate business ourself. So decide for yourself, rent/purchase the movie.

Many many years ago when I was working as a teenager at mcdonalds I had heard the real value of the mcdonalds enterprise was in the real estate, not the food. I was told the stores sit on some of the most sought after locations. --70.30.xx.xx |

Just to add...... I have also heard that often a business owners greatest asset is not the business they worked at for many years, but rather the appreciated land and building they own and run the business from.
Family farms are an example of this also. --70.30.xx.xx |

Same story for the Gyro sandwich chains, and I think in NY state 5oclock coffee shops, rumors only the pancake house chain in the south - almost one at every highway exit. --76.188.xxx.xx |

I've heard the same regarding the real estate but have never been able to confirm it. It follows a basic model of having your customers (tenants) buy you valuable assets (houses, dirt) that many in REIs follow.
Will have to check out that movie
I'll be I interested if he had the idea up front or I'd it came to him after the first several McD's opened.

S i d, if you are going to get the movie, part of the plot would be given away if we answered your question:). I'll just say this. Like the focus at this year's Convention, when you are looking to create more cash flow, the answer may be in Thinking Outside the Box! --72.214.xx.x |

Some of the books I read about Ray Kroc are a lot better than the movie. There is one that he wrote. --24.123.x.xxx |

My neighbor built 7 Golden Corral buffet franchise restaraunts. The goal was the food paid for the land in a handful of years, which he later sold to ChicFilA for a gob lot o' money.

Ironically, the original McDonald Brother BBQ restaurant is now a museum owned by a fast food chicken chain. --24.239.xx.xxx |

Correction: The original restaurant has long been demolished. The fast food chicken chain guy bought the LAND in a foreclosure sale like 20 years ago -- and has since put his headquarters there and built a small museum about the original McDonald's that was there. But, unfortunately, the restaurant itself is long gone.
But, per this thread's discussion... At least he got a good deal on some land in a foreclosure! :)
