We just had what will eventually be the East Coast's Largest Water Park open less than a mile from our house.

We were among first in line for season passes. $79, bought one for the whole famdamily (now they are $129 each for season, or $50 per day.)

Opened TODAY. We went later afternoon, rode the Lazy River, did a big tube slide (more about that anon) and ate dinner there. $12 for a Caesar Salad, oh well.

This is such exciting news for us locally I can't tell you. I am thinking I am going to offer season passes for lease renewals! Why not?

I *love* water parks. --173.22.xx.xx

Congratulations! Don't want to be a Debbie Downer but, well, yes I do enjoy a good Debbie Downer once in awhile. I went on a date to Hersey Park water park with a divorced dad and son some years ago. It was 90 degrees that day and they said there were 10 thousand visitors in the park. I noticed the park staff testing the water at all the rides many times.

Then I went to use the lady's room. There was not a soul in it except me. You have to know that at most events there are lines for the lady's room.

I thought the water looked a little yellow. I went on a slow tube ride not knowing that water would be pouring over my head at one point. When that happened I was screaming in horror. Ugh. People were peeing in the water on the rides and not using the bathrooms.

Enjoy your water park and for safety sake, don't go there. --73.33.xxx.xxx

W,

Somehow ironic to have a water park next to the ocean. But it's a great idea and loads of fun! Great activity for those McMansion vacationers. (thinking of your recent artilce post)

Not worried about a little pee. It's sterile. The ocean is full of all kinds of things...

Brad, we have lots of rip tides here where they close the beach for the day or days...so this *will* be something for the McMansioners!

Locals are split: some are screaming, some are loving it, like us. --173.22.xx.xx

I remember the first time we took our kids to a waterpark in Wisconsin Dells (Wisconsin Dells claims to be the waterpark capital of the world with several large waterparks). Our kids were probably 6 and 4 at the time.

Both kids loved it, of course. The older kid told me he wanted to go back for a month next time we went. Also... he told me he wanted to have his funeral there!!

The big waterparks are a lot of fun for kids. --66.87.xxx.xx

Turns out our season passes also get us 10% off food and drinks, and we bought an endless refill cup that we can bring with us each time...

We went again tonight. 2.9 miles from door to parking lot! We rode the Lazy River, each did one slide (he did high fast tube, I did the slower windy tube) and then came home. Nice way to end the day! --173.22.xx.xx

I thought it was less than a mile. I'm really bad about judging mileage. I can estimate a countertop by eye, but don't know directions or mileage worth beans. --173.22.xx.xx

I love water parks!!!! I love NC and I love the ocean!!!! I'm going to have to try that one too. At this point I think I've been to most of them....except the one in Flint, MI.

If they want everyone to stop peeing in the pools then they need to stop selling the " free refill" soda cups. They really should have thought about that one. --66.189.xx.xxx

Some of our most fun memories involve water parks. We took our kids on a 6-week camping adventure from PA to MT and back one summer. Without their knowledge, we decided to break up the trip back with a stop at the Wisconsin Dells.

It was mid-week, so the campground was dead, and the kids had no clue as to what the Dells were about. In the morning, we woke them up yelling, "Who wants to go to the biggest water park in the United States?!" We stayed until the park attendants herded us out, and then ate pizza in our bathing suits at an outdoor restaurant.

Such fun. Oh, and I LOVE lazy rivers! --71.175.xxx.xxx
