I went to hook up plugs today on a newly ran circuit and a freshly drywalled wall. Everything was going good and then I got to the middle of the circuit and found one of the wires didn't have a ground in it. Now I have to tear open the wall and run a new line... that really sucks!

I've had this happen once before, you just run lines like normal and then all of a sudden your at a point where there is no ground.

Must be a factory thing.

Problems like these really get me going. --174.201.xx.xx

Don't do that. If attic is above, just terminate ends of existing wire, and run new from above. Or just put GFI on outlet before and have that be the ground.

I can relate to your frustration. Years ago I spent almost 2 hours fishing some wires behind the plaster in a finished stairwell. When the power was turned back on the new light & switch didn't work. After doing a continuity test I found a problem with the wire from the new light to the source of power. When I removed the wire & stripped the entire casing, I found that there was a 3" piece of the neutral wire that was missing. I had never seen this before or since then.

We usually make up the wires before the DW is installed. We do this by leaving one of the ground wires long & use a greenie as the wire nut, join the neutral wire & a pig tail together with a wire nut and do the same thing for the hot wire. When all of this is stuffed back into a deep box, we find there is less chance of having the DWers nip a wire with their cut out router. --72.93.xxx.x

Were the wire holes in a fairly straight line except for a turn by the outlet? Can you pull the outlet boxes out of the way to remove staples holding the wire at the end only? If so you may be able to tape & tie a new wire on the end of the existing one and pull it through as you pull the old one out.

Other choices are if its 1st floor without a finished basement run from below or for second floor drop from the attic. --96.236.xxx.xxx
