I have a 2 year old LG range whose oven light has stopped working. It's not a burned out bulb. We checked the wiring harness, but that's not the issue either. My tenants are having fits over this issue. The next step would be to replace the touch pad control panel for about $225. I say that it's not worth it for an oven light on a $550 range. What do you think? This is a mid-level house and I have fixed every other nit-picky thing they have ever reported, including adding electrical outlets for them. On this one, I'm saying 'no'. Am I being unreasonable? --67.172.xxx.xxx

One more thing - the range has a halogen can light directly over it that is very bright. It is by no means 'dark' in the oven, ever. Maybe you cant judge the exact level of browning happening, but if you slide out the rack a little, it's lit very well. --67.172.xxx.xxx

No, you're not unreasonable. Go to habitat restore in your area and get a $50-75 dollar special. Put it in. Tell them they are lucky you provide any appliances at all.

In the future, don't provide appliances. Let them provide their own. --23.121.xx.xxx

Is the light controlled by an exterior switch or by opening the door? Have you looked in the instructions for trouble shooting tips? If you don't have the booklet, go on line & look up this particular model.

Since it's only 2 years old could this part still be under warranty? When purchased by credit card some warranties automatically get extended.

I personally would not be willing to spend $225.00 to possibly repair a $550.00 item. However if the light was working when they moved it, it should be made to work or some sort of compensation should be made. --72.93.xxx.x

I feel deprived since the oven in my house doesn't have a light in it. How did we ever manage to survive this long without it? --72.95.xxx.xxx

You added electrical outlets for them? At your expense?

Wow.

For this one, I would tell them that many ovens do not have a bulb in them, and that going forward, you are just going to purchase ones that don't have a bulb. Provide a flashlight and say you are not going to spend $225 on something that MIGHT fix a non-problem

If under 2 years old, agree to check with credit card on warranty. --131.151.xx.xx

Sounds like your tenants are nuts.

The lights in my ovens burned out years ago. Guess what...the ovens still work fine.

I would tell them "Same thing happened at my house! Can you believe that? I could never figure out a reasonable fix so I gave up and here is what I do, I use the over head lights, it's working for me"

Unless it's a high end rental or a high end stove, i would ( and you won't believe I PK will recommend this) avoid or delay the fix. Add an additional smoke detector in the kitchen,,, just in case!

I bet they use the oven once a week for pizza... looks about the same going in as it does coming out... LOL!!

Oh boy,,, this is taking alot of you time. I actually like my light in my oven, but if it burnt out and it was a big money hassle to fix I would just leave it alone.

Perhaps see if there is an online troublshooting helpful tip or the Manufacture would be of some assistance. --184.206.xxx.xx

Good grief!

These are tenants I do not like. I now tell everyone in writing that if I stove breaks it will be replaced with another self-cleaning stove but it may not be the same model with the same features (they may get a coil top to replace a smoothtop for instance). I also tell them I do not repair or maintain ice makers or water dispensers in refrigerators. So if they work now it's a bonus. If they fail they can replace the appliance or pay for the repair or live without the bonus.

When is their lease up for renewal? I'd definitely raise their rent to market value if it's no already there. One of my PITA tenants just was notified 90 days in advance that their renewal will include a $85 rent increase.

The property is still below market value and had they been anyone else I probably would have raised it $40 max but they will be paying more for the time they steal from me.

My other PITA tenants were constantly breaking their stove due to cooking massive amounts in large pots. Finally I said no more. I was not repairing it free of charge again. I told them they could pay for the repair or I'd remove it and they could buy their own. They claimed that's why they rented so when they break things I have to fix them. I promptly informed them that their $950 a month house should be renting for $1200 so if they agreed to a new rent amount of $1200 I'd repair the stove.

They bought themselves a new stove. --173.170.xxx.xxx

Laura ,our own stove is only forty three years old the bulb stopped working about ten years ago,got a new one maybe a little brighter one, its still in one of the drawers, never had a chance to screw it in. The oven still works without the light,I wonder why.Ah!@well! In my lease It states if there are appliances in the unit, they are there for the convenience of the resident,if they fail to function,it is the obligation of the resident to have them repaired...................Charlie............................................................ --174.199.x.xxx

I find these types of complaints common. Its tiring. Technically the tenant is right, they rented a stove with a working interior light....but realistically life happens. They dont care and want you to make it right.

I dont buy LG appliances, because in canada, lg wont sell actual working parts to the retail stores, so every problem means I would have to call a service tech and pay their inflated prices.

I woukd go with the flashlight. --70.29.xxx.xxx
