Fun LLing story:
While cleaning up a vacancy I noticed the neighbor had a junk sofa sitting on it's back in her yard. I put on my biggest smile and knocked on her door. I explained we were working on the house next door and my guys would be happy to do a neighborly favor by throwing the sofa on our trash trailer. (and make MY house look better!)
She agreed. "I got it for free but my house is too small" she said.
As my guys carried it I noticed it was a REALLY REALLY GOOD leather sofa. Good enough for my "someday" classy executive office suite.
Later, the hardwood refinishing guy spotted it and wanted it. He said he'd do an extra $650 worth of sanding and refinishing on a big project we have going in exchange for the sofa.
Done!
From trash to shiny floors!

I was thinking that you will make leather floor area installed in a middle of hardwood.
I have seen a picture of the floor made from old leather belts. It was really handsome look!

When I was growing up, bartering deals were quite commonplace. I hadn't seen or heard of one for almost 20 years (everyone preferred cash, for a discount off the strike price). Brad - Usually, a leather sofa being tossed out has a big tear, serious stains or major scuff marks on its surface. I'm glad that things worked out extremely well for you. - Dan --66.87.xx.xx |

I traded a Subaru something or other for a 1970 Chevy C10
And an old Barber's chair for a 1950' Coke Machine.

I got to my project house today and noticed some composite decking in the dumpster. Really nice stuff, perfect amount for me to build a little deck in front of the front door.
I called my contractor and thanked him for his deposit.

Brad, glad to see the art of bartering is alive and well.Growing up in Northern Ireland, it was a common practice. The same year I immigrated here another young man from the west of Ireland hit the Boston area.He bought a pick ,shovel and a wheelbarrow, and started to install sidewalks.Sadly he passed away two years ago
His estate was valued at $500,000.He attributed his success to his mother who bartered small cabbage plants with the farmers at the monthly fair in a small town in Mayo. So Brad ,you're carrying on a great tradition.................Charlie............don't have anything to barter,at least not now, maybe next year?..................... --174.199.xx.xx |

One thing I loved about living in Newport Beach was all the great furniture my billionaire neighbors threw out!
I'm sitting on my white $2,500 Ethan Allen sofa I've had for about six years since we got it out of the trash. With my feet up on my $50 Ikea glass table with probably a $300 hunk of glass on it.
For years my executive desk was a huge wrap around that a neighbor bought brand new for $1,200, never used, then moved in a few doors from us. Discovered the desk once assembled was too big for his home office. It is like 12 feet long. Just gave it to me to get it out of his garage so he could get his Mercedes in. --47.216.xx.xxx |

For those who might be concerned, we checked it carefully for odor and bedbugs. I THINK the brand was Basset.
And this was the good, thick leather, not a Sam's Club leather.
