I'm test driving my new amber tint (blue blocking) computer glasses. Seems to help.
I use 2 - 27" monitors. Event tho I have the brightness dialed down to zero they put out a LOT of light.
Anyone else use these?

I have not amber tint computer glasses, however, on operating systems that allow me to do it I change all white backgrounds to a very light grey (or to a very light purple - my favorite color). That tends to help my eyes since I spend a lot of time in front of a computer. I will just googled blue blocking amber glasses, I will give them a try. --75.22.xx.xxx |

The only amber colored glasses I've worn are beer goggles. They cut down on a lot....good judgement being one. --173.19.xx.xxx |

I remember way back before gooey technology (Graphical User Interface, Gui, for you young 'ens,) when our computer had a choice between amber or green. Seems hubby and I always preferred amber. Couse, we weren't but youn'ens ourselves back then.
You've got me thinking...Dangerous I know...but maybe hubby should try some amber glasses. He tends to spend most of his time in front a a computer screen. --70.92.xxx.xxx |

Since this has come up, the lack of sunspots is allowing a massive amount of ultraviolet rays to hit us from the sun. The sunspots cause turbulence that tend to break up the streams of ultraviolet. Without the sunspots it's just boiling right in. Make sure you have sunglasses that block ultraviolet and make sure you use them. Macular degeneration where you see wavy lines instead of straight lines on the chart and blindness are caused by ultraviolet. You can follow this as it unfolds over the next five years on Spaceweather dot etc. Also gamma and other rays that can actually cause heart arrhythmias. Five years of this folks until the spots start to return.
Scientist on Fox the other day said that 200 years of high sunspot activity is what has caused some of the global warming. --73.33.xxx.xxx |

I think my computers and monitors are causing global warming - they can warm up any office!
The UV light from monitors and TVs can contribute to cataracts over time.
I tend to stay up late. Scientists say that can be from the blue light of the monitors telling my brain it's the middle of the day.
Meanwhile, Sam's Club sells a "wake up" light designed to get your body going.

Never tried them, but I am getting more sensitive to computer screen light, so just may try them. I do use amber polarized sunglasses for driving - I saw my brother wearing them while driving in a downpour once, and got curious. He let me try them, and I was amazed at the increase in visibility. --71.175.xxx.xx |

The blue light from the computer screen definitely stimulates your brain and makes it hard to sleep. I started cutting off screen time at 9 pm and found I slept much better as a result. My night owl teenager has blue-light-blocking glasses and says it helps. --204.210.xxx.xxx |

Brad (and others): If you haven't tried it yet, you may like the free "f.lux" software for Windows. It auto-adjusts things based on the time of day and such. A lot of people that stare at screens all day really like it.

Interesting idea for a desktop.. I use the app Twilight for my cell phone. It adjusts the brightness and cuts out blue light by time of day and your settings. --136.32.xxx.xxx |
