Hello,

After fixing the roof, do you replace the dry wall as well? The flat roof will be painted with silicone based paint.

It was an older house, and the interior is “stucco like” one piece wall. It’s not the dry wall.

Any pointers/suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My last one, I had the wet parts cut out and replaced. My home is plaster over some kind of experimental wall board. Not lathe and plaster like most, not dry wall either. Home was built in 1923.

My contractor was able to get it all to match - just takes a guy knowing what he is doing.

This is on personal residence, that we spent a lot of $$$$ on in the second half of 2016.

Note: after water gets in, if you don't dry it out right away, you run the risk of mold getting started. We dried it out, then sprayed a mold inhibitor. --131.151.xx.xx

Kevin,

Be sure that your roof is fixed correctly. I would have a flat roof covered with rubber. Then certainly you should replace any damaged wall or ceiling - being sure to remove any moisture as Barb said. It sounds like you have plaster. Some handymen don't like working with it, but it can be patched with drywall in just one area. They need to be careful they don't break off keys adjacent to the area they are patching, or it will soon come loose too. You do need someone who can make it match & look right (Unless you are creating an "accent wall") --68.105.xxx.xxx

Absolutely not a fan of flat roofs. It is hard to track down exactly where the leak is coming from.

But if you must have a flat roof and can't afford rubber - then I would recommend a torch down roof --24.239.xx.xxx
