Heat Pump Upgrade (by Michael [OR]) Posted on: Mar 24, 2017 4:27 PM Message:
This was a particularly cold winter in the NW. I upgraded my condo last summer because the long term tenant couldn't afford the new rent increase that was the result of a large assessment levied on the indiv condo owners. . The new tenant has been a good tenant. Two months ago she called to say that the 5-yr old heat pump wasn't heating the condo sufficiently.
I had a technician do a tune-up on the heat pump. The tech said the heat pump, worked fine-but that the fireplace mantle was reflecting the heat back upon the top of the unit so the warm air wasn't circulating.
I was referred by a neighbor to this tech who also recommended I look at mini-split heat pump. The total cost of the unit after the credits and would be $2467.
Does anyone have experience with the mini-split heat pump? Thanks.

A split heat pump where there are two types. One a standard efficiency heat pump and the high efficiency heat pump which performs better in severe hot and cold weather. Check out the brand name and specifications. If want more information on split heat pumps then go into You Tube videos which explain different makes. Some heat pumps work better in colder temperatures. Most heat pumps will have a variable speed compressor which goes up and down depending on the demand. Try to get a larger heat pump as the unit will not be strained where the variable speed compressor will compensate. --74.220.xxx.xxx |

I have purchase two, 15,000 - 18,000 BTU units in the last year. One, a $2,800 Fujitsu unit and the other a $1,300 off brand Pioneer unit. My HVAC guy, who is a master at his craft said that other than the flimsiness of the case and mounting bracket, the two units are virtually identical and he suggested I by the cheaper unit in the future instead. Even the standard efficiency units are phenomenally more efficient than an oil fired furnace and will save your tenant money. OR would not get cold enough to require the low temp. Models, which, contrary to Robert's assertion, are less efficient than the non low temp units. --98.13.xx.x |

So the unit work fine and would heat the place if the ducting was fixed? Why not fix the airflow issue.
