Hi all,

What is the best way to go about the closing process of a property when selling it? Are there companies that specialize in this or should I get a lawyer? I am thinking that if I find a buyer for a property myself, then I don't need to pay a real estate agent, but rather get a person that does only closings. If there are any recommended ones in MA, let me know please.

If you're using a real estate agent they will take care of the paperwork for you. You will pay both sides of the commission (buyers agent plus your agent). If you sell without use of an agent, you could use a real estate lawyer to draw up the purchase and sale, but it's fairly straight forward and you could probably do it yourself if you do some homework (there is a standard Mass P&S form you could use). What kind of property is it and what town is it in... perhaps I'd be interested. --24.147.xx.xxx

You can get a title company or lawyer to do it. It would behoove you to get a copy of the Massachusetts Realtors sales contract. They pretty much have all the details hammered out. This is important when your selling, so you don't miss any of the required disclosures. Especially Lead.

If you're buying, the agreement is good enough on a Burger King napkin. (For me at least.) --50.32.xx.xx

I second NE suggestions to use a title company. In our neck of the woods they will walk you through the process, provide forms and handle escrow. Contact them before you have a buyer. --98.145.xx.xxx

I would use a lawyer. You can go to a title company but where I live, a lawyer charges the same fees and you are getting legal representation that a title company cannot provide. --72.95.xx.xx
