State Specific Question About: CALIFORNIA (CA)

Cable box is outside at left end of complex unit #1, and tenant at unit #4 (right end of complex) wants the cable service.

Time Warner installer said he has to pull another cable line from unit #1 through #2, #3, and all the way to #4, either inside through garage or attached to outside wood trim on exterior wall.

I told the installer, there are 3 cable lines already inside the garage. He said he needs to use the new one. We told installer to stop any installation immediately.

I would like to know, is it true that you can't use the old cable line? Why Time Warner installer always pull a new cable line when there is a new tenant? Time Warner is the only provider in the area.

I am really confused. Why the apartment is different from single house? If you have the service in the past, and there is a cable outlet on the wall, why not use the same outlet? Why installer need to pull another cable line?

Thanks in advance. --172.89.xx.xxx

The cable people have a deal with pest control, they want to drill as many holes as possible. This is why I always prewire my places so when they arrive it is a 1 hole job. --76.188.xxx.xxx

They always say they need a new line. Sometimes it is true; sometimes it is not.

I would look and see what you have run now (RG-6? RG-11?) and then ask what Time Warner wants to use. If they are the same, then argue it. If not, then they likely have a point.

It can depend on all sorts of things -- distance, whether your house power is buried or on a pole, etc.

Vee: I am curious what you pre-wire with? RG-6 or 11 or something else? Shielded or no? 3GHZ or something better?

I use rg6 quad shield, within a dollar at HD or electric wholesaler, I place a 12 x 20 plywood and use a staple for each cable labeled to compass headings room by room, they can mount the divider there and connect what room is asked for, if it is complicated I even run a section outside near the dmark from the phone company. --76.188.xxx.xxx

There are 3 cable lines inside garage from unit #1 through #4 already. #1, #2 , #3 have no cable outlets or service. Why installer don't remove old cable line not in use and keep adding the new one?

I will find out what kind of cable lines in garage first. Thanks.

Can I deny tenant to install cable service if installer has to drill more holes and run another cable line through other units?

Thanks again.

I have an idea. Install a 3" diameter PVC pipe outside across the building from the cable demarc to the last apartment and have cutout junctions in each. Let the installer use that to run his cables through. They can pull cable to their heart's content and it will all be contained. --99.125.xxx.xxx

Every one has upgraded to the RG6 quad shield. If your cable in place is something else, they really do need to replace it.

If what you have is RG6 Quad shield, they are just blowing smoke. --131.151.xx.xx

A W, doesn't matter which company,Time Warner,Dish Frontier Comcast, they all think they have to run their cable.Perhaps the trouble is,they don't think,if they did ,their head would hurt, from the installer to the top brass, one is as dumb as the other? I don't have an answer, perhaps Vee is right, maybe they do have something going with the termite crowd. .........................Charlie.........................A logical explanation won't work........................ --174.199.x.xxx
