Sad to hear,

I've no idea who he is, however I know that his name was mentioned many time on this site over the decades and it was always a positive high note.

His book(s) is great. We bought the first edition in 1984 when we rented out a little house we could not sell. We were young, stupid, and did not know what to do. We read the book and followed his advice to the letter. We kept that house for 10 years and had 2 good tenants during that time. We sold the house a decade later for 160% of our purchase price. In 2013, we decided to buy an apartment building. We bought the 8th edition of his book. This time we were old, stupid, and still did not know what to do. We read his book and follow his advice to the letter. Things are STILL working out great! RIP Mr. Robinson, you are angel to me! --98.145.xx.xxx

I read his (Yellow book called "Landlording, A Handymanual for Scrupulous Landlords and Landladies Who Do It Themselves") and Jeffery's book when I first started. Together they were the reason I am still in business today. He will be missed.

I also gave or lent his book to several people I encountered who were entering the Landlording business with no clue. Those that read it did well. --73.34.xxx.xx

When i first signed on for this web site I thought it was Leigh's site.

Yes great book but more importantly great inspiration. When i started out in 86 that book was the one I would tell everyone about that wanted to look into investing. Zig's was one along with Robert Allen's.

I first read Leigh's book "Landlording" (10th edition) in 2010. One year later at my first Mr. LL convention, I got the unexpected pleasure of meeting Leigh Robinson in person and he invited me to join him for breakfast that morning! That was the equivalent of being invited to the Vatican to meet the Pope and to get his blessing on moving forward in life as a landlord!

Leigh Robinson will be missed but his words of wisdom that he passed on to me will live forever. --68.62.xxx.xxx

His book was the first that I read, also. I still refer to it occasionally. What really sticks in my mind is what he said about needing a sense of humor as you wade through the responses of prospects - that still helps me keep my cool.

He will be missed! --71.175.xxx.x

My Leigh story:

I started in '77. Sometime after that, before internet and before MrLandlord, I tried the LIBRARY for help with my rental biz that was driving me crazy.

Leigh's giant yellow book was hard to miss. I checked it out and inhaled it. Revolutionized my approach. Returned it in 2 weeks.

Later I saw it on the shelf again and was jealous my competition might find this FANTASTIC resource.

Fast forward: Jeffrey ran a sale and I bought a case of the books. Gave them to my offpsring that are starting in RE and we use many for LL assoc door prizes.

I got to meet Leigh at Convention in St Louis a few years ago. SUPER nice guy.

He has helped untold number of landlords and shaped the LL education system.

I still use much of his advice today. 30+ year later my Default/Eviction letter uses his approach that many people are waiting for you home if you are not going to pay the rent.

His legacy lives on!

I'm Leigh Robinson niece, Deborah Robinson. My father was his oldest brother.

I worked for Leigh, and his wife Ivy for the last 9 years as their personal assistant and as Director of Operations for his four self storage facilities. For nine years I came to their home where Ivy and I shared an office together and Leigh was in his own office. Needless to say we were very close. They were like my second parents and looked up to them my whole life. Their high moral values, frequent volunteerism and philanthropy will forever have a lasting impact on me.

(His wife died in February of 2015. They were married for 50 years.)

Tonight I was moved to tears as I read what people have written here about Leigh.

I'm continually surprised at how many people he touched.

Now that I've finished Memorial services at the two churches he attended I am beginning to plan his Celebration of Life memorial service. I will definitely post on this site when and where that will be which will be happen in the coming months or early next year, 2017.

Again, thank you all for for your kind words.

A couple of weeks ago I had learned that my great friend, mentor, and colleague has passed away. As many of you know, Leigh was the author of the all-time bestselling book - Landlording. You know the one--the BIG yellow book with the Simon Legree looking character on the front. :) What you may not know is that it has been in print for 40 years, has sold over 375,000 copies, and has twice been selected as one of the top ten real estate books of the year. From his over 40+ years of landlording experiences, there was not much residents could hide from Leigh.

My wife Dot and I had the privilege to join Leigh and his wife Ivy on both professional and social events, including attending a ballet with them in San Francisco. Leigh was one of the kindest and most giving persons I had ever met, and he was so non-assuming. Just looking at him you probably would not have guessed that he owned a multitude of rental properties, motels, commercial property, storage facilities, etc. On top of that he was a super active and fun guy who rode a bicycle for miles at a time. Leigh enjoyed living life, and he traveled the world with his wife. He then shared the stories of his travels in his annual Christmas card which was more like a novel of several pages of his adventures. :)

While his book Landlording made him a legend among landlords, Leigh seldom spoke at conferences. However, he often made an exception for me. Numerous times, he joined me on our Landlord Cruises and MrLandlord.com National Conventions. Over the years, as he would write new editions of his book, he would either call me or I would call him. We would jokingly negotiate a rock bottom price to buy the "previous" edition of his book that I would make available to my subscribers and website visitors. In fact, if you have never gotten a copy of his very informative, 300 page classic, I still have copies of the 9th edition, which you can order by calling 1-800-950-2250. Order Leigh's book this week for just $6 each copy, which is enough to cover shipping and handling. Use them as a gift for landlord friends. Limit of 3 per order.

Leigh was a great support to me as both a beginning landlord and as an author. He was one of the first to provide a strong endorsement of my book, The Landlord's Kit, and he touted my website in his publications. For all his support I will be forever grateful. He was the kind of person I want to grow up and be like. Not because of all that he owned, but because of who he was. Leigh always showed integrity, grace, kindness, a love for life, and a desire to be helpful to people. Thanks Leigh! --72.214.xx.x
