Okay so we've all got our thrifty streaks and we know where to save money...where do you BLOW your money? What's your personal extravagance?
We tend to buy electronics as we both love technology. We aren't early adopters per se, but we do have wireless thermostats, wireless outdoor lights, security cameras, multiple laptops, multiple tablets, decent smartphones, GPS devices, satellite radios, multiple and whole house DVRs as well as multiple streaming services...also a couple of scanners and multiple printers and such.
And books, I buy a lot of ebooks. I stopped buying "real" books because they simply take up far too much real estate, but digital formats let me buy as many as I want without that issue.

Dunkin Donuts, medium hot coffee, cream and sugar. Mmmmm.
Firearms.
Tools. If I want a tool, I buy it.
Winter clothes. I like being warm in the winter and will buy $30 wool socks whenever old ones wear out. What a difference a pair of those make in the winter.
I also like to splurge on charities. If there's a fundraiser or something that I'm interested in, I enjoy sending a nice check to them.

I spend moohla on kilns, materials to make my own glazes, clay, tools and such. When I find a tool I like better I give the old tool to someone who wants it. When I get tired of my dishes, I give them to Goodwill and make new ones. Sometimes I make things for a mud buddy friend of mine who finds it hard to make as many mugs as she use it. Concerts, mostly blues, some rock.
Nice upgrades for our own house that make the living easy. Bought huge, expensive dehumidifier about fifteen years ago. Santa Fe model, made in Madison, well over a grand at the time. Utility bills dropped by $20 a month. That was the year Lake Michigan started dropping to record lows...just sayin'....
LED lights throughout the house, especially the kitchen. We can make that baby so bright, you could do surgery in there. Or, put just the very soft dimmers on in the upper cabinets (glass doors on the very top,) for soft holiday lighting. Very romantic. And electric outlets everywhere. Never need an extension cord in this old house.
And, a rule that has held up very well- new project, new tool. If my husband didn't buy a new tool with each new household project, he'd get hurt. So, we learned that buying good, proper tools kept him out of the ER. That rule now works well in my rentals. --70.92.xxx.xxx |

After watching her scrub floors and ovens while I did painting and construction at our rentals and selling my electronics business I got her a 3.5 karat diamond ring that she loves. Her Sears ring is now a pinkie and the 3.5 K is on her "she's taken" finger. --108.196.xxx.xx |

Dog medical bills can run up there as they get older. Lost one last year that must have cost me twenty grand over her life as she had hormone issues, then cancer.
I feed the birds and all the critters who live in my yard. It runs up since I give them some special things like blanched peanuts. Those are preshelled. The little titmouse loves them, so do the cardinals and a few of the more unusual sparrows will take off with them. The crows get good small dog kibble. Jays and squirrels like to hide a nice shelled peanut. The woodchucks like them too. The black oil sun flower seeds are popular and I get small seed mixed with corn. I get safflower to make sure there is always something out there for the birds since the squirrels don't like it cause it's a little bitter. I get some preshelled sunflower seeds for some little guys and hang a feeder in one place in case someone can't open a shell for some reason. Then there are dried meal worms for the insect eaters in winter like wrens, and the help the robins that come back too soon or when they run out of holly berries while transitioning into their spring diet of worms. I buy the little suet blocks because mother birds can grab a beak full very quickly and get it into their little ones. Cracked corn is great for the babies when they have learned to fly but are not good at cracking seeds yet. Then there is small kibble cat or dog food for the larger birds like crows, starlings, and the Jays like it too. I put a lot of safflower out in a dry pine woods area and the doves go there to eat off of a small table.
And I collect 18 inch dolls and moderate a group of over 1800 collectors, mostly older ladies like myself. I have a two year old Subaru Forester and might trade it this coming December. I have a big Explorer, 2008 with only 27 K miles on it. So I'm not a big car spender.
I don't travel. I don't eat out. I don't wear jewelery or furs or expensive clothes. I buy my clothes on Ebay and like the designer stuff that might be preowned. I have a whole bunch of money in the bank just in case. The house needs some upgrades. The units are tip top shape.
That's it. Dogs, birds, dolls. I already have a bunch of antiques and art that I collected since I was in my twenties so I don't need any more of that. I am really enjoying my life. --73.33.xxx.xxx |

By end Feb in southern TX it is spring already. I don't even need to take a suitcase. I have an assortment of clothes, shoes, toiletries, in a lockble closet. If I didn't have to tell DH what I'd done, I so totally would have bought that 15th c. Latin edition of "Ruralia Commoda", just for the sake of having it. It was a bargain at under $2k-- they usually go for far more, if you can find one at all.
