State Specific Question About: MASSACHUSETTS (MA)

how do you handle a tenant that may have brought bedbugs in the building? --71.255.xxx.xxx

Treat the whole building. Can't prove any one person or unit is the actual cause. Just take care if it. Move on. --66.87.xx.xx

What plenty(MO) said.

Get a 20lb bag of diatomaceous earth (cheap, from a feed store). Fill a couple screened shakers with the DE.

Dust that DE on every surface in every apartment. Give full shakers to the tenants, so they (pyschologically) feel they have some defense over the bedbugs.

I had a unit that would get bedbugs every couple months. I treated as above each time. Each time the bedbugs would get killed off.

DE is a cheap and effective killer of bedbugs with absolutely NO sideeffects. I even ate a pinch of DE to silence a hysterical tenant "went off" about how her kids would get poisoned by the DE treatment.

When bedbugs are gone, just vacuum up the DE. --66.30.xx.xx

cmt,

Start by playing detective. Active BBs are easy to spot and live in clusters. That might give you the answer to who brought them in.

Ask what furniture has been brought in lately and where they see the critters. Remove infested stuff and spray. Then dust.

State laws vary but I take the approach it's MY building, MY investment, MY building's reputation at stake so *I* want them gone more the the residents do!

(and they multiply RAPIDLY!! so act quickly!)

I agree with you Brad. Relying on the tenant to take care of your building is a poor idea. --65.26.xxx.xx
