State Specific Question About: CALIFORNIA (CA)
After eviction has been filed and Court date has been set.
Is there anyway to get exteneded time for the court date? --108.82.xx.xxx |

The court could allow/accept a different date but it has to be a good reason to move it. It can't be something to just postpone the date for no reason. --69.201.xx.xxx |

never heard of extension given on court date for dispo action.
If tenant has answered and court date is set-- this is where you turn it over to the local atty pro on LL tenant law. The guy or gal who's there every day doing this. (AKA the judges golf buddy)
WE NEVER represent ourselves when we know it's going before the judge. The atty charges 75.00 for the hearing--- worth every penny. --74.184.xxx.xx |

Court will usually allow a single continuance for no reason at all. Subsequent continuances need to be supported by good reasons.

Are you a tenant looking to squeeze more time? If you're a landlord, why do you want it extended? --70.192.xxx.xxx |

Any easy way for a tenant to get a nice place to stay after /during an eviction is to tell the judge that the mean old landlord isn't allowing you to do your heron inside your apartment.....then show the judge your stash.
The judge will go out of their way to make sure you have a place over your head. You will even get 3 meals a day --24.154.xx.xxx |

Does one have contempt for court. Not showing a automatic writ of possession along with a judgement is going to be issued. If you show up at the hearing one can mediate a payment plan along asking more time to pay the arrears. Unfortunately rental housing providers still have to do repairs, pay mortgages along paying many other things which are included in the rent. --74.220.xxx.xx |

My judge says no. Parties were informed of the date and must plan accordingly. If one cannot be there they should hire an atty to represent them in court.
He starts 5 minutes late each time so he does not have to listen to excuses about finding a parking spot.
