State Specific Question About: CALIFORNIA (CA)
The landlord came to us asking to make changes to the lease (still 6 months remaining) such as utilities in her name or show she occupies a room on the property or she will lose the house. Next a realtor is calling needing to set up a time to take pictures as the house is going to be put on the market. We find out through public records that the landlord took out a HUD reverse mortgage loan and that it requires the owner to live on the property. We have occupied the entire property since 10/2015. Having to deal with showings and realtors and people coming onto the property has been less than enjoyable. Any insight as to how to get away from the situation the landlord, did I mention IRS certified tax preparer, has created? --66.215.xx.xx |

You can't "get away from it" until you move. You should consult an attorney. I hear Jackie Chiles is very good. --45.46.xxx.xxx |

In order to get out just tell the LL to pay you to move, like your deposit and first month rent for the new place will be fair and you do not have to lie for her. After you move out she can do whatever. --67.236.xxx.xx |

There is little hope. If the reverse mortgage co is onto her they will take out all the stops to get the property or force a sale. I watched it happen next door to me. Start your moving plans. --70.209.xx.xxx |
