State Specific Question About: GEORGIA (GA)
So currently I'm in the process of moving into an apartment . I gave the complex $250 security/holding deposit. As of right now there isn't any apartment readily available for me to move into. I'm starting to get a little suspicious ... Because the front desk agent I've been dealing with has never followed up with me on the numerous occasions she said she would , I had to call her about the credit check, I had to call her about the extra money I'd have to put down .. And initially she told me that an apartment would be ready in April but now has been pushed back to sometime in May. They did let me know that I had 3 days to change my mind and get the deposit back but after that it would be forfeited. But if they keep pushing the date back because there isn't any availability and they're not losing money on a unit , if I decide I don't want to keep playing the waiting game is there any way I could get the money back? --99.88.xxx.xxx |

Did you get any paperwork? Sounds very bad for you.
Try contacting a manager or supervisor. --108.89.xxx.xxx |

This is what happens when people damage a place or simply change locks and -hang tight-, I would think they want to rent to you but someone has forced them to use a sheriff and likely gonna need time to make damage repairs. You could ask for your money back, and advise your friends how crummy life is when renters do not follow the rules - leaves you stuck in the moving van. --76.188.xxx.xxx |

Jim: no, the only thing I've signed was the paper about the 3 day thing and then the credit check.
Vee: I'd like to think that's the case but when I asked her she said they hadn't gotten any notices so then she said it would be in May. I got approved March 11 so I've been waiting almost a month. --99.88.xxx.xxx |

They haven't gotten any notices yet? What does that mean? They took your "hold" money for an apartment they don't have/expect to have?
If that's the case - then they should give you back your money if you no longer want the apartment. If you do want the apartment then hang on I guess - I would talk to a manager/broker to find out what's going on. I understand that there may be a waiting list and that's a bit different possibly. Sounds to me that they took your money on the "what if an apartment becomes available" and potentially led you to believe that one would become available in April but it didn't - so now maybe May. If they haven't received any "notices" by now - I'm thinking June unless they are about to evict or are evicting someone.
You may need to go to an attorney or legal aide... see if you can get your money back or find out what really is going on. --69.201.xx.xxx |

Read the forms they gave you when you paid the holding deposit. Does it state a specific date for your move in? Or a specific apartment? Or, is this some kind of waiting list? --73.146.xxx.xxx |
