The name of the notary on the court records should help. Have you looked at the documents at the local courthouse? --75.121.xx.xx |

Who did the closing? Title company? Escrow company?
How/where were closing documents signed. Were they signed by you?
Check should have been dispersed to you on the spot or by mail in a couple days.
County records will show which company did closing. --75.86.xxx.xxx |

Lyn,
Most states have a branch of the licensing dept that handles real estate which is a recovery fund for people that get ripped off. Check with your state dept of professional regulation. --75.86.xxx.xxx |

how did you first find this company?
Bye Bye money.............
Did the company logo have something like: I am an Ethiopian Price who needs money brought into USA. Will pay you 25,000,000.00 to help me?
Every state has a real estate commision who licenses company's. Got to them. --74.184.xxx.xx |

Try posting a notice on the door, is the house missing also? I have to ask because while working on trimming trees so I could get onto the porch of a place I purchased a couple stopped on the street with the window down and asked if I was the owner, I said not yet but someday I want to be, they said they were from the bank just checking on the condition of the house - I thought how unusual to have the clairvoyance to check the property from your car seat, they were still there so I asked if they know so-n-so from the bank - Uh no we are the management company the bank uses - I replied you must not have been paid on this place yet even though the bank had it 3 years cause as you can see the doors are overgrown but unlocked for such a long time they are rusted open right here in front and the yard crew must be doing photoshop on the lawn care, you should see the back of this place, they promptly sped away as I called my friend at the bank to see if she got the pictures of this place I took the day before and left copies at the main office nearby, this place had no metal of any kind inside but the bank had pictures of a well manicured house with these house numbers allegedly from 2 months ago - love to know how those trees grew so fast in the wintertime... --76.188.xxx.xxx |

are you saying you sold the house? if so, the realtor doesn't have your money. The settlement agent does. Didn't you attend the settlement? didn't you sign the Deed, a handful of affidavits, the Closing Disclosure? Even if you stupidly (yes, I used that word on purpose) gave a POA to a realtor to sign docs on your behalf, the settlement agent wouldn't issue your check to them ... it would be in your name.
Worst case scenario, knock on the front door, introduce yourself and basically beg the new owners to put you in touch with their settlement agent.
There are some missing details to this story ... --72.95.xx.xxx |

Nicole-- who says Lyn wasn't at the closing-- or who says Lyn didn't open an account and cash the closing $.
I agree something-- A LOT is missing from this story. I liked your use of Stupidly--- but would have used STUPID with no LY. --74.184.xxx.xx |

Lyn,
What do you mean by "gave the house to a real estate company?"
If this was a traditional sale it went thru a title company.
If they somehow "took" your house their mailing address will show on the county property records.
Could this be a fly-by-night investor who is re-selling the property.
After the title co, do what PattyK said about asking other RE offices, then go to an atty.
BRAD
