State Specific Question About: MAINE (ME)
Do you know of any accountants who do yearly income taxes at an hourly rate, rather than per property? I keep all my records categorized and added up (by category). My current accountant does charge by the hour but he might be moving next year.
I own 12 single-family places. Usually it takes the accountant between 1 and 2 hours to do my taxes.

I do taxes, but with 12 properties your going to pay more than 1-2 hours of time. It should take longer if you are depreciating everything properly. Saving money on your accountants billable time may cost you more tax, or inaccuracies. --74.106.xx.x |

Thanks for the response.
My own preparation takes roughly 6 hours---going through and adding up every receipt/invoice in every category, and noting the things that are to be depreciated. The tax guy has me rattle off the total for each category for each property. He depreciates the 5 (?)-year and the 27 1/2-year items, and we're done. In your experience, what takes the bulk of the time?
