Somehow, a sock got through to the heating element in my coin-op electric dryer. Mostly smoke, and we got the dryer working again, but now there's a smoke odor on the clothes coming out of the dryer.
Any suggestions? I hate to have to replace a $750 two-year old Whirlpool dryer.
Thx.
Ron

Replace the heating element? You could also scrub down the element as there might be some residue still left on it. If there was heavy smoke it is going to take some time to get it cleaned out of the dryer. --74.83.xx.xxx |

No idea if it would work, but vinegar is a great cleaner. Perhaps clean the inside drum with vinegar and then try drying some towels that are damp with vinegar. --73.253.xxx.xxx |

run it through a heavy wash cycle or 2.
Just kidding of course. New element. --74.184.xxx.xx |

1) Take it apart and clean every surface.
or
2) Put an ozone machine in it and run it. --73.34.xxx.xx |

Please report back on how it turned out. A call to a few coin op equipment dealers would help. --70.194.xx.xxx |

OK so I have to ask BillS [CO] what he means by #2 (Put an ozone machine in it and run it)?! --67.246.xx.xx |

Ozone breaks down organisms which cause stink, I doubt if you could run it with the machine inside but surely a small size machine would have it cleared in less than a day, I would go for 12-16hrs and run the machine with a cleaning towel and observe the change. --76.188.xxx.xxx |

Generally find the Whirlpool washers and dryers to be the lowest quality. Here it is too expensive to run a electric dryer where all the coin operated dryers in the apartment buildings are natural gas including the heavy commercial coin operated Laundromat natural gas clothes dryers. Find was able to buy used where these machines dry the clothes in 20 to 30 minutes bone dry along with being able to withstand the abuse in a coin Laundromat environment. Still have a 30 year old Laundromat coin dryer which just keeps on working. --74.220.xxx.xxx |

#22 meant to run the ozone machine while the ozone machine is inside the dryer. NOT to run the dryer with the ozone machine inside the dryer.
